Surely he must?

I'm not too unhappy with the line of reasoning (which it now seems almost certain that they've taken-up) that he had to play all 5 months of this season without mishap in order to get back in the frame, but to delay it any longer would make little sense.
Yeah if he doesnt, it will be a real farce. Hes almost 30, if they dont make the most of his undoubted potential now, its only likely to go downhil thereafter. Might as well make the most of him while hes still fit.

Yeah, the team selection for India could well be fascinating though. Flintoff at seven made a lot more sense than at six, but four bowlers would mean playing a second spinner is unrealistic, and we are going to want two spinners in India. Flintoff plays if he is fit, meaning the following compete for two spots, it would seem:

Sidebottom
Anderson
Jones
Harmison
Broad

Broad shouldn't get a game out of that lot, and really Sidebottom and Anderson have both earned runs in the team, particularly Anderson. Harmison, though, could take a hatful tomorrow and it would then be hard for the selectors to drop him, but with Jones bowling so well domestically he is surely worth a pick in the Tests.

Writing all that you'd think we had an embarassment of riches for fast bowlers, but competition for places is a good thing and it is certainly an improved situation.
Unless something goes drastically wrong, Jones should play in the first test at Motera. Of all the bowlers in the England side, Jones is the one who would be most effective on the traditional Motera surface or for that matter most Indian surfaces. It would make little sense to go in with Sidebottom or Harmison over him. Personally, I hope to see Prior back and possibly batting at number 6 in India with Flintoff 7, Sidebottom 8, Anderson 9, Jones 10 and Panesar 11. Definetly batsman light, but I think in general its harder to get 20 wickets in India than it should be to score 400+.

Kieswetter's also a wicketkeeper and lower-order batsman - Moore is an opener who to my knowledge has never had any protestations whatsoever as a wicketkeeper.

BTW, figures like this are the stuff cricket dreams are made of:
Code:
GJ Batty 3-2-1-0

3-1-2-3 ... even better. :)

How any first-class team, even in a reduced match, gets bowled out in 17 overs is beyond me though.

I'm not aware of that happening to any first class team today. If you mean the hapless Wet Boys then "second class super saver" may be a more apt description.

Sorry about that ...

Still coming to terms with being called a spammer on the Trivia thread tbh ...
Apologies David - I thought you were conspiring with Mr Zaremba

I saw the outrageous spammer accusation - happen the old bugger was fooled by your new avatar?

I saw that accusation too, Stumpski, and am puzzled by it. I take it that it's something avatar-related? I don't know about anyone else but I disabled avatars and the generously-fonted signatures favoured by other posters - since when I've enjoyed a smoother and more relaxing CW experience.

That's interesting - I disabled sigs a while back as it makes threads a lot quicker to read, didn't know you could do the same with avatars.

Really nice win for Worcs. Davies really impresses. Not a bad time to do it either with England in mind. We were also missing our 2 best bowlers today so perhaps a bit lucky the overs were reduced.

And have you ever watched Michael Vaughan's action? It's the slowest, easiest action you'll ever see - possibly for the precise reason that he's always had to be careful about his knees.
I've seen Vaughan bowl a few times and even thought his action is hardly exerting a huge physical toll, there is still pressure and twisting on his knees.

Hopefully now they've recalled Smith from his loan at Leics they will actually play him? took 2-27 or something yesterday so a decent start.

Good start by Imran Tahir for Hampshire - done so well in fact that apparently his already been offered a contract for next season (and beyond).
Tahir has also again stated he wants to represent South Africa.

Davies' one-day performances have looked-up in recent times. Still not 100% convinced about the idea of him opening, would much prefer him at, say, four, especially as Mitchell is being forced to bat so ridiculously low in ODers, but Davies' upturns in OD fortunes are deeply encouraging, especially as ODIs are the form he's always been overwhelmingly likely to play first, and it'd be good if he was actually good at them before playing.
