Next test captain to quit ?

Malik is the one most likely to quit, or be dropped. That team has had a rough ride of late, and the PCB is less satisfied with every passing (lost) series. Questions may exist about Vettori as well. Kumble, though, is likely to last a lot longer, since India's oldest players often hang on for a long time, as we've seen in the past. We don't know who's likely to succeed Gayle, but the giant Jamaican might get a recall sooner than later.
I don't think Vettori's in danger of being stripped of the captaincy. He looked to be overwhelmed by the end of the England series, so he might walk out, but his tactics have always seemed reasonably good to me with limited resources. The only other option is McCullum, who's a bit of a wildcard option. It was always going to be hard for Vettori to follow one of the greatest captain's around.

Don't be surprised if they take one or more tests off England. They showed some decent signs v Australia this year.
Of course, so much depends on injuries and availability - their depth isn't as good as some other sides.
If they have what I'd call they're "full strength side" out then they could be In with a chance.

Gayle
Marshall
De Smith
Sarwan (c)
Chanderpaul
Bravo
Ramdin (w)
Sammy
Taylor
Powell
Edwards

I don't think Samuels will be back by then? At least I don't think so.

Or Chattergoon for Hinds and up to 3.

Hinds will get a hamstring strain or something in the first session. He needs to get fit first.

Pedro Collins signed his West Indies career away with a Kolpak contract for Surrey. I've been a fan of Jason Bennett for a while now, but he hasn't received the game time to force his way into West Indies contention. He played for Combined Campuses and Colleges last season and did pretty well though. IIRC he took a 11-wicket haul against his home nation, Barbados.

His FC record is outstanding and he's been talked up for a while as a genuine talent. Surely he's good enough to get a berth for the New Zealand tour later this year.

PS - Powell could be worse. He could be Mohammad Sami.

If he was a year or four younger, the apparent end of that ruling's ability to affect cricket could offer WI a repreive.

However, IIRR he's 32 now and there's no way the ECB are going to be allowed to terminate county contracts already signed. His deal still has a year to run so it'd be the end of 2009, by which time he'll have turned 33, before he'll be eligable for West Indies again.

If Malik was forced out of the job, who would take over? Younis Khan maybe, but I thought he declined a while ago.

He did, but being a Pakistani, there's no way on Earth you'd want to bet he'd do it again if offered again.

And after today, you'd have to question whether he'd really be all that much help anyway. :-O
