Lindwall?
Larwood?
Qadir?
Gibbs?
No, yes, No and No. :)

Its so gatifying to see Larwood's magnificent and classically perfect bowling action being paid the ultimate accolade. Lindwall incidentrally based his action on Larwood's and was proud to proclaim so.

Now. Who is the spinner ?

Thank goodness someone thought to preserve this clip of Larwood bowling. I think that there was real carelessness in failing to record (or save the recordings of) more of the great players. As that clip shows, slow-motion footage was very much a possibility even in those days.

Verity?
Fleetwood-Smith?

Yes. It is Verity.

Would you like to guess the batsmen ?

Have a look at Ray Lindwall's action Mr Z - you'll see where it came from

Apparently every delivery of the Bodyline series was filmed - sadly we only ever get to see the same clips - I fear most of it just wasn't kept but have never had a satisfactory answer

They played in a winning Ashes team? (not Slater though)

OK I will bite, what?
I thought Slater did play in 58/59? but its too late to check now

I was referring, of course, to the bent elbow variation but on reflection I shouldn't have sullied this honourable thread with meaningless banter

My apologies - and I started it - I cant even blame Mr Zaremba

Look, I didn't mean to start anything.

Anyhow, to be fair to him, it may be that in that footage Lindwall was attempting a run-out?

I think Lindwall greeted the tourists at QLD and said "I am the last of the straight-arm bowlers"

I have watched that footage and he does seem to bend his arm, but nothing I have ever read suggests anyone even suspected him as a chucker, maybe it has to do with angles and projector speeds?

Slater played the 3rd Test taking two wickets:)

Wasn't he a specialist keeper?

PS I think SJS's question about the batsmen featured in the coaching book is still live.

He was a keeper but that's nothing to do with it either.

PS I thought SJS just asked that as an aside after his actual question had been answered.
