R-Truth is coming to WWE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLIenhRRmXo

Fantastic promo by WWE and Ron Killings. Genuinely excited by this promising development. There seems to be a huge emphasis on African American wrestlers which is terrific since most of them are very talented.
Ridiculous that Fox8 decided to cut this out of the SD! broadcast in favour of a 6 minute promo on "America's Next Top Model." Nothing against that show but how many wrestling viewers really give a rats about it?

Chuffed that Truth will be on SD! and given a gimmick he's comfortable with and excels in. And awesome to see they're trying to package him as a straight up face.

Watching Sting on Impact right now makes me regret the fact that we never saw him go up against the big guns of WWF. To this day my two dream matches would have been the Rock V Sting Main Eventing with a bit of Bret v Angle to warm us up.

Hell he even made Hogan look like a wrestler at Starcade 96(think it's still up on youtube), such an underrated and awesome wrestler.

Would be interested to hear what other people's dream matches that never will be are?

EDIT: Starcade 97 it might have been.

Angle v Steamboat prime v Flair prime v Benoit v Eddie v AJ Styles. Gimmick match or not, would be candidate for Match of All-time.
Angle/Benoit v Los Guerreros v Edge/Rey - Survivor Series 2002 to have been TLC. Still a very, very under-rated match, showed all the strengths of tag-team wrestling.

And who's to say it'll never happen?
It won't happen in the near future anyway with Kendrick going to Smackdown and turning heel. By the way, I think the repackaging of Brian Kendrick into a modern Brian Pillman is a fantastic idea. Not only do they resemble each other physically but Kendrick has been fantastic in harnessing Pillman's attitude and character. Definitely a guy to watch and with this new gimmick, he could be a potential star.

My dream match at the moment would have to be Chris Jericho vs AJ Styles. Would love to see it, but sadly it probably will never happen.

Also Paul London is likely to be released in the near future apparently. And iirc they did face the hardyz as part of a 4 team ladder match at Armageddon 07.

'06. :p

Not been in here for a while, so I'll drop in my two cents on recent developments.

Khali vs Triple H at SummerSlam - well, Hunter will probably bring a passable match out of Khali here, which is one thing. However, the disappointing thing is that Hunter is scheduled to take a bit of time off soon for the birth of his second child, so Khali could well be going over. Either way, I bet this match does HUGE numbers, so WWE won't care.

Edge vs 'Taker, HIAC - regardless of how recent HIAC matches have gone, you just know this one's going to be awesome. Edge always goes above and beyond in gimmick matches and this will be his first HIAC, so he'll want to make it a memorable one. Plus, his interactions with 'Taker have been great - the way he tries to pretend he's not afraid of the Deadman when you can really tell that he's crapping himself is brilliant, and really adds depth to his character.

I'm also just watching SD right now, and this MVP and Jeff VIP Lounge segment seems fantastic. MVP is absolutely incredible on the mic, all the time, and Jeff's mic work is so much better when he's talking from the heart about his career and his life, not when he's cutting generic face promos. I'm impressed that WWE allowed open reference to his Wellness suspension on air, first time they've done that as far as I know, and I hope they continue to let guys know that if they get suspended, their fans will know they've been let down. I also love that Jeff made a reference to MVP having spent time in prison, without actually openly stating it. Catering to the guys in the know, without being obvious about it.

One more thing - one of the guys I work with at the moment having gone back to my old job is a big wrestling fan, we've been watching a fair bit on the TV in the bar at work. What's amusing me, however, is that short of actually believing wrestling is real, he's about as much of a mark as it's possible to be. He hadn't watched wrestling in about two years prior to watching GAB with me the other day, and on hearing that CM Punk was wrestling Batista for the title, his reaction was "What?! Batista's gonna break him!". It's quite fun to have a mark's perspective on everything that goes on in WWE, so many of his opinions are so ridiculous.

Haha know what you mean, I was talking to a guy who similarly hadn't watched wrestling for a couple of years the other day, and needless to say he's a huge mark.

He told me at length how Batista was awesome and how he wanted to see loads more of him on TV, sigh, he also had a special mention for how awesome HHH is for holding the world title so many times.

On the topic of dream matches, Rock vs HBK is one that's way up there on everyone's list I would think. Right now, another one of mine would be Edge vs Christian - I know it's happened before, but with both guys since having matured into genuine stars since then, you know it'd blow the roof off WrestleMania if it happened tomorrow.

In terms of technical matchups, Angle vs Flair would have been a good one with both in their prime. Would pay a lot of money to see that.

I know a couple of people like that too. Talk to them about wrestlign all the time and they're a good reference point for seeing how effective WWE is at gettign people over, the fact that no-one really considers Punk to be legit right now says it all about how they've booked him for me.

And the new GM for RAW is:

Mike Adamle  At the time I saw it I hated the idea but gotta say it's grown on me. He had a pretty good start this week where they had him make some hilarious matchups (ie putting Michale Cole in a match and watching him brick it). And the fact that we now have a unique heel GM in that he won't discriminate against who he's an asshole to as pretty much everyone in the company treated him like a joke before will be interesting to see where this goes.

Agreed. It's different and it'll be interesting to see where this goes. If you complain about this then clearly you're a mark that Vince McMahon deliberately wants to get upset with this move.

Unfortunately Punk is only legit I think to all those of us who have seen him in ROH and his work there. Watch any of his matches in that promotion and you'll find that he's one of the toughest guys on the entire WWE roster. Here's hoping he has a clean win at Summerslam.

Yeah, pretty excited about this actually. It's completely and utterly out of left-field, and it's a great example of the WWE taking something negative (Adamle's terrible commentary) and creating something positive from it. I laughed when I heard Shane say Adamle's name, which is a good sign - there's potential for some really good stuff here. I actually thought after the Cole thing that the new GM was gonna be JR, which I would have hated as I can't stand the man, but Adamle has infinitely more potential for interesting angles.

The one mistake I feel they have made is booking Cena vs Batista at SummerSlam - that match would have made millions if it had been a first-time-ever matchup for the title at WrestleMania XXV. Still, that means everyone's predictions for WM are out of whack. Either that or we're getting a big-money rematch.

Also, I love what they're doing with Jericho. This complete change of character sets him up well to become a legitimate title contender in future, and also probably fits pretty well with how he could conceivably feel about his career in real life. Plus, the 8-minute in-ring promo he gave was a piece of absolute genius. Struggle to see how anyone could fail to put him among the top mic workers of all time.

Yes AWTA in a big way, Arguably Jericho is currently the most over (as a heel) he has ever been in his life. And all this without really winning any matches barring the one at GAB. Imagine what it could be like if they keep it up for a few more months without burying him, a mouth watering prospect imo. And like you say (though I really know better than to get my hopes up) it actually looks like he could be in the line for a world title run....fingers crossed. (bet he gets a shot at Summerslam and loses tbh)

And yeah, Cena vs Batista would be better if there was more momentum going into the match really, best way for this to have gone last night imo would to have been the segment ending with them being all pally rather than descending into an argument/brawl. Still, imagine this will still actually be ok.
