Sod The Open, I had 18 holes at Terrey Hills yesterday. Invited a mate of mine along who came second in the individual stableford and won a rescue club, shirt, umbrella and a magnum of cab sav, while I had all of 24 points. We missed the 2BBB by 3 shots, and I had 5 wipes in a row.

****ing dire.

Rocco Mediate

If he'd been in another sport we'd start moaning about drugs
he says the u.s open completely changed him as a person, sounds like he got an incredible confidence boost and that has carried over to royal birkdale....anyway it is only thursday so far, long way to go...

The Great White Shark! What a old campaigner.
yeah but it is also a sad indictment on the younger players that someone(even a former 2-time champ) who hardly plays anymore can come in at age 53 with no practice and dominate like this...

I couldn't believe when I heard it on Radio on my way to work. I hope he hangs on to win. :) Chris Evert's charm is already working on him. Must have been practicing his swings & putts really hard .

Harrington with a great closing few holes, not too far off now. McDowell still well in there too. Got to be the best season of Irish golf since I've been following the sport.

Golf's not really the sort of game where constant practice and play is a guarantee of performing in any given tournament though, it just ensures you perform more consistently. It is a surprise Norman's up there, but I think once you have made it to that level you're capable of having a good couple of rounds every so often. The lack of play will probably show up in his ability to carry form over 4 rounds.

well yeah you're right and if he falls out of contention in the next couple of rounds, it is one thing...but if he wins or finishes in the top 3 or something, that would not speak well of the current generation...

Well, he's played really solidly, outperformed Choi after the first few holes, which I really didn't expect. Hey I'm not going to say it'll be a bad thing for golf if an has-been won, I think it would be better then a never-was, which would happen if it was a Noren or a Wakefield.

Harringtons favourite for me though, and Choi not far behind.

In other news the aussies I backed this week collapsed in a heap today, why can't their cricketers do that more often?

yeah he now has a two shot lead after the 17th...and i agree partly with the bolded part, it would certainly be better than a never-was winning it...i think you really have to put norman in the mix with choi and harrington now...

if only..., maybe their golfers(with the surprising exception of norman of course) could get together and give a seminar to the cricketers on the art of collapsing, choking etc(actually norman could give a guest lecture on the subject having been a past master in the art of choking away majors)...:)

Well, it wouldn't speak well of their ability to handle the sort of conditions the British Open throws up occasionally, but Norman's a former no.1 so playing golf to a high level isn't totally foreign to him. It's unexpected, but he has a hell of a lot of experience to draw on.

If a former also-ran that is also a never-was played this week and was leading then it would reflect badly on the current generation. You could probably back the current generation to beat Norman over 4 rounds at least 8 times out of ten these days. This might be one of the other times.

COME ON GREG!!!

Pity it's on TV so late here.

Go the Shark, Harrington to sink a 250 yard approach shot on the last to win the title. All while normans approach preceding this lands 2 inches from the hole.
