Game at Soton is interestingly poised - is this Lanky's year?
Don't say that. You'll jinx us. That's asked every year, and they always fail. But just 2 weeks or so ago, we had 1 win from 6, Loye was a shadow of himself, Law had passed 50 once all season, our whole batting lineup was pretty much Horton, we had no Murali or Hodge to rely on and Saj was spearheading our attack and averaging 35 or so. Then we won, and we're doing good now. It's because no one was tempting fate.

:-O

Oh f*** - Its all been my fault - I've said that every year since I were a nipper - sorry lads - thats 42 of the 74 years you can blame me for - I promise I wont say it next year and I'll try not to even think it.

I am annoyed. By both Kent's inadequacy and Pothas.
I couldn't agree more but in my long experience the bottom half of the oppo's batting order and wicket keepers in particular is a rock upon which Lanky often run aground - remember Phil Nixon - he always seemed to make runs against us after the top 6 had gone for not many

Still Keeds has just got rid of Mascarenhas - Pothas cant play on his own

Interesting start from Masters: 5-5-0-0!
The Master Of Accuracy (yeah yeah...) strikes again.
Good to see Tom Smith getting a decent bowl 20-6-46-3, hopefully he can get a game back in Lancs
'Tis truly excellent to see. Honestly am astonished that there truly was a level Newby and Mahmood were outbowling him at.

Hope Smith makes best use of the remainder of his time at Leics.

BTW, seems Dawid Malan will now take his favoured spot as an opening batsman for Middlesex, with the strong middle-order back and Strauss now away again. Shame he failed in his first crack there after all the middle-order success.

BTW, FFS I knew this was going to happen with Dawid Malan. There's no places free in the Middlesex middle-order with Smith, Shah, Joyce and Morgan. So sure enough, he has to be pushed up to open to take Strauss' place. 8-) Great reward for brilliant middle-order performance.

Plenty of other counties who'd kill for Malan's skills and be only too happy to give him a middle-order berth.
Yeh I'm sure Malan is really pissed of right now a being 'forced' to open the batting, I expect him to leave the county right away after the indignity of being forced to open a game of county cricket.

Seriously how can you write something like that, do you even know anything about Malan apart from that he scored one century in a 2020 game? Maybe he WANTS to open? Maybe he's been an opener all his career? Maybe he sees this as the ultimate reward for his brilliant innings against Lancs?

Thinking he should bat in the middle order all his life because you saw him get a 100 batting a 7 in a 2020 game makes no sense, even by your sometimes warped logic.

And anyway, it's a bloody team game, scoring one hundred doesn't mean the Middlesex team should be immedieately restructured around him, especialy considering the awesome batting line up Middlesex possess.

Huh? I didn't even know he had scored something in a Twenty20 game - I don't take any notice of Twenty20 as I don't care in the slightest for the format.

Malan has made 2 or 3 fine innings in recent times for Middlesex's First-Class side, batting in the middle when others have been missing.

I doubted until finding-out that he'd been an opener before his Middlesex stint. However, thanks to the below post, I now know better.

try some research then dicko, he's opened pretty much all his career, playing the odd game at no 3 in OD cricket..he didn't open in the last 2 FC games because Strauss was playing.
