from his stats one can presume hugh trumble must have been a cracking cricketer too

Absolutely agree that Chappell should win this round, but Trumble deserves a vote.

Chappell. Trumble was no slouch, but his figures need to be interpreted for the period and conditions in which he bowled (ie the period where averaging 40 with the bat was the absolute elite), just as Chappell's need to be considerred in light of the bowling he faced.
