Gone back to 01/02. Carried on with Morton, got to the last game needing a win at home to Aberdeen and for Celtic to fail to win at home to Motherwell. I murdered them 1-0, and Celtic were 1-1 until in the 90th minute Solskjaer's regen won them the league.

In the summer, Martin O'Neill retired as manager of United, who had just won the European Cup. I applied and to my immense surprise (given my world reputation before joining United was fair) I got it.

I inherited a good first XI, which is no surprise for the Champions of Europe. However, it is ageing and the back-up is non-existent. It's not easy given so far I've been buggered by injuries, but a few signings (including a couple of Morton players) have eased matters. Though they were too late to be registered for the first phase of Europe, I breezed it and I'm currently two points top of the Premiership. Aiming for domination in the coming seasons, but more needs to be done to reduce the squad age.

Could someone see if the club Shipston Excelsior exists in the newer version of FM, CM01-02 disappointingly claims no.

This is probably the strongest finish to a season I've ever had! West Ham down 1-0 early against Everton, the 2-0, but came back to win that one 4-2 with Steele scoring 2 more! Then we played Arsenal midweek in the 1st leg of the UEFA Cup SF. We won that game 3-0, though my best midfielder got sent off with a straight red card (boooo!) and my best centre back reached the yellow card limit. Still hoping to make the final with that scoreline in my favour. The second leg is at the Emirates though.

Dropped a hard-fought 1-0 game to Man City, so Champions League football is virtually out of reach and now we're 1 point out of Europe too. In the Arsenal second leg I entered with 8 first choice players on yellow cards, but I decided to start the game with them and try to make sure of a place in the final. All was well with an early goal to make it 4-0 on aggregate, but Arsenal hit back with 2 goals and I was hesitant to make substitutions. Two injuries forced my hand and all things told, I'm missing 4 of my first choice in the final.

2 midfielders - Berry and Alonso
1 centre back - Dempsey
...and Michael Steele. :(

I feel like Turkey must have felt.

Two more injuries in a 2-1 win over Millwall. Now about to play Arsenal in our final League game and we need a win to ensure there's European football next year. But in 3 days is the game against Chievo for the UEFA Cup, and I'm already missing 7 first choice players through injury/suspension. :(

An injury concern against Arsenal, but the player should be fit. We dominated the game but my fourth choice striker (who I'm trying out to see if he should feature in the UEFA final) missed a couple of easy chances. Arsenal then hit us on the counterattack and went on to win 1-0. A couple of other results went our way though and we've secured a 6th place finish on goal difference.

Bring on Chievo!

European Final.

In the 10th minute Chievo scored from a corner kick. Henrique was the man with the header, outdoing the West Ham goalkeeper, Bengsston, as he attempted to collect the ball.

Some 19 minutes later West Ham equalised through Zizov (3rd choice striker who I picked up from Deportivo for £2.7m in January). The team began to lift and look more confident and at half-time it was 1-1.

West Ham began the second half in the same bright fashion before going ahead with another stunning goal by Zizov (legend!). It was the 64th minute then and remainder of the match was a true chess game. Chievo pushed forward and tried to fightback, causing me to take off an attacking midfielder for my 19-year-old DM, Phil McKenzie. It was a switch from 4-3-2-1 to 4-1-4-1 and the young man responded well under the pressure of the moment.

In the closing moments, when the tie could have gotten very tricky, England midfielder Chris Berry scored a header from a set piece. The score was then 3-1 and West Ham went on to secure a maiden European title! Fans ecstatic, board ecstatic, Dean Ashton (Southend manager) in disbelief.

Won the league first season at United quite comfortably in the end, though I was actually trailing Newcastle for a bit. Got to the European Cup final, was 3-1 up v Ajax, they scored two in the last five minutes before winning on penalties. Wankers.

New season, winning the league comfortably, then drew Juve (who have, along with United, been the main force in European football in this save game) in the quarters. Lost the first leg in Turin 2-0 (had four players suspended thanks to finishing my last group game with 8 men, and another yellow card suspension). Haven't played the return yet, not confident, wankers.

Just been drawn with my former club Mallorca (and Trabzonspor, Frankfurt and Sint Truiden) to start my UEFA Cup title defence. We're presently 5th in the League too, having just beaten Man U and Arsenal 1-0 in my last 2 games.

Really struggling in England this season. At 13th in the League, though only 2 points off 8th, and losing some ties against teams I really should be beating. Also out of both Cups in the first two rounds. But in Europe we continue to play really well. Breezed through the group stage and just won our second knockout round tie, 3-2 on aggregate (3-0 at home and 0-2 away). My biggest problem right now is that Steele has been injured for about 3 months and could be out for the remainder of the season. I'm hoping my physios pull off a miracle though. I signed an Italian striker as cover in January, and he scored twice in the first 20 minutes on debut. He's scored twice in about 10 games since, and I've since forgotten to register him for the second phase of Europe. Furious.

Game with Valencia going pretty well thus far, 13 games into season and sitting in 3rd place just behind Real and Barca, unlikely to topple either of them I would have thought, but a 3-1 victory over Real and a 4-0 victory over Inter in the champions league have proved to be the highlights so far.

David Albelda unfortunately has picked up an injury which has ruled him out for most of the season, but Hedwiges Maduro has come in and done a very decent job indeed, Alberto Zapater has been signed to join during next summer as a long term replacement.

Anyone help me out, my FM2008 is just rubbish. I get error messages all the time when I was playing it, when I was trying to save. Also it has never installed properlly, like its installed on the computer but the only way to open it is go through my computer> Program Files> Sports Interactive> Football Manager 2008. But since ive uninstalled FM07 the SI folder has gone and there is no way to open FM08 anywhere. Any ideas?

After much searching and finding very little, ended up fixing one of the problems, I've got the game installed to the desktop now too so its easier to open, I guess I can live with it this way.

Started up with Fiorentina after I re-installed Windows, the transfer window is coming towards the end and AC Milan have put in a bid of £8m for Sebastian frey, I said no and how the **** is having a cry because I won't sell him.

Should I sell him, given I don't have a lot of money left (£118k) and what I get for Frey won't nearly be enough to buy a good quality 'keeper? I'm thinking about tsicking to my guns and telling him to harden the **** up.

Don't sell, Frey is probably the best Keeper on the game in my experience, absolutely invaluable. You would'nt be able to buy a replace who is as good as him for double what they are offering, if you up his value to £30m they should stop sniffing around, and then he'll STFU and be back to being happy after a few weeks.

Didn't sell him thankfully. Signed Edu on a free transfer after for some reason Valencia terminated his contract. I'm not even paying him £16k a week so he hasn't cost me anything and if he is cack, I'll move him on. I have the latest patch so all transfers that happened in the January 2008 transfer window are relevant as well.

My squad (sorry if it is a bit to small).

I either go for 4-4-2 with Kallstrom on the left (he can play there quite well) if I want to play him or 4-3-1-2. These seem to work but is there any other tatics/advice I could need to get the best out of my players?
