Ninjas v ****atoos
The Ninjas batting continued to struggle, and ****atoos took full advantage in a comfortable win. In an already familiar situation, only Ash Chaulk stood up for the home side. His 83 from 55 balls was absolutely crucial to a total of 157-9. Chaulk lashed 2 sixes and 10 fours and seemed to be batting on a completely different pitch to that of his teammates. Only Sean Fuller and Mike Wilson otherwise reached double figures, each contributing 17 to the total. The ****atoos seamers did the major damage in sharing 6 wickets, and Kyle Wright led the charge with his first commanding performance of the tournament. Wright took 2 for 16, including Fuller.
The drama carried through seamlessly into the second innings of the match. James Robertson was trapped lbw to the first ball of the innings by the impressive Mohammad Amir. One of the finds of the tournament, Amir operated with good pace and aggression and was very difficult to get away. Unfortunately he was not supported by Adam Hollioake, who looked aged in giving up 17 from his first over. He went on to surrender 43 runs in his 3 overs. While Amir pressed on and snapped up two more wickets in his second spell, Rob Malone stood firm, untroubled in scoring 70 not out- his first major T20 score. With David Kearsley (40) he put on 90 for the fourth wicket, then de Bruyn entered in time to end the game with a brisk 3 runs.

Mathemagicians v Masters XI
The disappointment continued in Mørkambe as they were on the wrong end of a last-ball finish against the Masters XI. Shane Warne hit his fellow legspinner, Neil Pickup, for six to end a low-scoring thriller. Mathemagicians were asked to bat first with a bit of moisture in the air, and struggled to get on top of some accurate seam bowling. Matt Luff was the only batsman who looked at all at ease, playing an innings beyond his years and holding firm with 52 at the top. At the other end partners came and went while Lance Klusener wrapped up tidy figures of 3 for 20. Most unfortunate was Morgan Burridge, run out while backing up due to a deflection off the hand of Odoyo.
A score 118 was never likely to be enough, but to the delight of Jamee Gray, Mathemagicians did not give up hope. The bowlers were accurate enough to keep runs scarce early on and built a measure of pressure before Neil Carter broke through. Lara was first out, miscuing a pull shot to be caught at midwicket. Pickup then stamped his authority with a brace of wickets. Suddenly, it seemed, the result was still in question with the visitors in trouble on 74-4. The gap was closed to 15 required by the time the 7th wicket fell, and Warne joined Justin Kemp at the crease for the final 28 balls of the innings. The two knew that they did not need to take any genuine risks. That conservative approach almost backfired, but Warne kept his cool in the final over and masterminded the chase of 5 with a last ball winner.

Turistas v Dazzlers
Turistas crashed out for the lowest T20 total of the tournament to date, losing to Dazzlers by 68 runs at home. Number 11 batsman Thad Bochat was one of just two players in double figures, and Turistas scored only 88 in total, in response to Dazzlers score of 156-9. Though the batting was hardly spectacular, the pitch was not entirely without fault. A bit of inconsistent bounce had the visitors in trouble when they batted first. Dazzlers lost wickets at regular intervals and sunk to the depths of 66-7 before another rescue mission.
The usual suspect, Zac Gelman headed the efforts of recovery, this time without Chris Schofield (0) at his side. Instead it was another familiar partner, captain Kingsley Clapham, who supplied support with the bat. Gelman was the aggressor by consistently charging after Bochat and taking 3 sixes off one of his overs. He ultimately fell a run short of a half-century, chipping a catch back to legspinner Martyn Corrin. In fact, Corrin was the brightest spot for Turistas. The allrounder took 3-14 and later scored an unbeaten 35 to stay high and dry amidst a dismal team effort. Clapham was able to resist his wiles, and he too was not out with 37 to his name. Surprisingly, but not crucially, Gee Sriram hit his second six of the tournament and was unbeaten on 10.

Rabid Wolves v Upper Body
Runs flowed in West Robbham as the clash of the season proved excellent value for money. Both teams crossed 200 runs at the expense of a devastated pack of bowlers and to the delight of a sell-out crowd. Kev Gough won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first to maximise upon his team's strongest suit. The first 11 runs came from the bat of Nick Scott before he was stunningly held by Aseem Sharma at backward point. It was the lone success on a disappointing day for Liam Camps.
The wicket seemed to trigger an onslaught by the Rabid Wolves top order. Dan Rai (62) and Ben Read (38) decided to take on the much-hyped Upper Body spin attack and scored at almost 2 runs per over in a partnership of 65. When they were separated by the run out of Read, Rai soldiered on with the support of Håkon Mørk. The third wicket partnership produced 81 runs and only took 44 balls to do so. Rai raised a half-century from 30 balls and slogged Dave Mohammed over long-on for six before falling to the same bowler 3 balls later. Some excitement ensued when Nath Patrick battled back into the game with the wickets of Mørk (42) and DeSilva (0) in his next over. And amazingly Rabid Wolves went on to lose a 7th wicket (the mighty Pollard) without addition to the score, completing a collapse of 4 wickets for 0 runs and threatening that the innings be derailed. But the promising talent of Sam Morris came to notice again. Morris kept calm under pressure with 25 from 16 balls. He enabled Sean Bennett (18) and Dave Richards (18*) to launch at the other end, and they hit 5 sixes between them to elevate the score over 200. Richards was particularly brutal, taking advantage of Patrick's failed attempts at yorkers, hitting 3 sixes for his 18 runs, all scored in the 20th over.

The CW Black captain arrived at the crease with his most convincing swagger and promptly dismissed the first ball from Nel to the point boundary for four. The next ball was firmly punched through the covers and Smith was away to 8 off 2 balls. His fairytale start was cut short, however, when he was struck on the toe by a Nel yorker and given out for 8. In the following over, Camps lasted the same number of balls - 4 - but did not score before edging Gough to the lone slip fielder. Rabid Wolves were in control with Upper Body hunched over at 8-2. But as per usual, Darren Murphy was not prepared to negotiate with terrorists. He unleashed a couple of ungodly slogs over mid-on as a measure of response. Chris Dwyer was less effective and was a second wicket to the elated Gough. The score was 22-3 and Rabid Wolves sought to turn the screw.
Again, it was not to be. Fate and Murphy's law dictated that filthy swiping would reign supreme. A partnership of 122 breathed new life into the innings in a lazy blink of the eye. And in its course, Murphy celebrated his second consecutive half-century, taking 33 balls to get there. From that platform he elevated his pace with 2 more sixes and a four, reaching 76 from 44 balls when he picked out Rai in the deep. Richards breathed a sigh of relief and Upper Body faced a chase of 75 from 36 balls in the closing stages. Jay Gonzalez was just the man for such a crisis, entering on the back of some excellent form. Unlike Murphy before him, Gonzalez looked a genuine class act. He had Bosco Fitzsimmons with him, already entrenched with 27 balls behind him. The crowd was in for an exciting closing session and had their expectations met. Fitzsimmons picked on Kieron Pollard's medium pace when he bowled the 17th over, scoring 17 runs including 2 fours and an enormous 6. From the final 3 overs then, Upper Body needed 37.

There was hope then for Upper Body when they started the 20th over on 200-4. Gough charged in and handled the pressure in distinctly manly fashion. Neither batsman could handle his clinical yorkers and they committed the sin of 4 dot balls when more than 3 runs were need per delivery. Gough let out a scream of relief after his final delivery was smashed to long-off for a single, wrapping up the first episode of the most intense rivalry of the season, and keeping Rabid Wolves top of the league.
