BARNES OUT
If you drop him out for the first twenty minutes it's almost useless to select him. He's never played as a utility player from the bench, it throws the rotations out (who does he come on for? Gidley? Bellamy wouldn't want to have to take Gidley off then bring him on again later in the game for Bedsy.)

It also severs his partnership with Anasta in 20 of the most important minutes in the match, which was the whole point of selecting him, and would likely unsettle Anasta's ability to get into the game, as well as Pearce's. They've picked him and there's no way they don't think he's good enough to start, otherwise Finch or Orford would've been picked in the 7 orginally.

From a NSW point of view i reckon Gidley is their best option at fullback. Brett Stewart has not stood out in any of his rep games yet and I think its fair enough to give Gidley a chance in the role.

0 more sleeps.

Looking forward to getting Ben Cousined before the match, then watching Qld bolt.
Going to play for Port Melbourne in the VFL are you? :p

Just be careful to wipe the powder from the nostrils before rejoining the group :)

But he's too young to handle an Origin decider in the first 20 minutes. Would've preferred Finch or Orford but.
Nah, reckon it's harder to come onto the field part way through and pick up the game as an organiser. play maker than it is to do it from the start.
If NSW lose, I can't see him being the reason.

Should be a cracker tonight.

Anyway, Pearce should start, and Gids at fullback - NSW miss Mini.

There's no way of judging that until he plays the first 20 minutes. If he sets up 4 tries (God...please let him set up 4 tries  ) then what you've just said will turn out to be rubbish. If he sits by the corner post crying and sucking his thumb, then you'll be right.

Probably a good move starting with Gidley at fullback. Firstly, he's better than Stewart and secondly he can get involved in a couple of plays early if they feel Pearce isn't adapting well.

Personally I think Pearce will play the whole 80 and they'll rotate Gidley/Stewart like Queensland did with Hunt/Slater in game two.

Going to feel so strange wanting Anasta and Pearce to fail.

Stewart is better than Gidley. Gidley has gotta be one of the most overrated players in the NRL. He played one of the worst games I've seen anyone in a Blue shirt play last Origin. The only reason he'd start at fullback ahead of Stewart is if they want him as a safety net in case Pearce starts to struggle.

Na I rate Gidley at fullback. Would have been close to leading the Dally M race for a while last season and has been very solid at the back recently. Stewart gets a bad wrap especially on this forum though. I think he's a better fullback than people give him credit for and Simon's "never done anything at rep level" comment is well off the mark.

Round 16 Results

Boy Brumby - 71
James90 - 70
Mr Wright - 70
Morgieb - 69
Burgey - 69
Clapo - 68
Chaminda_00 - 68
DCYE - 67
Tozzer - 66
99* - 63
Simon - 62

Brumby takes the sole lead, and records the only real position change after a rather uninspiring round of tipping. No-one tipped the Warriors, which was no big surprise, only 2 tipped the Roosters, and iirc only 1 tipped the Sharks. *99 suffered the worst though, only scoring 2 compared to 3's and 4's from the rest.

90% of the NSW team played one of the worst games anyone has ever seen in a Blue shirt in game 2. Gidley isn't a halfback, and the sooner people realise that and stop trying to play him there, the better. It's no co-incidence that his rise to fame has come since he's been playing as a fullback, a position where he's easily one of the best in the NRL. Dropping Stewart (if it does indeed happen) may be harsh, but it's certainly not a bad move at all. You've got a 19y/o making his debut at halfback, and having arguably the best creative fullback in the NRL starting with him is going to be more of a help than a hinderence for mine.

Got no problem with starting Gildey at fullback, but ****ing put Monnas on the bench and start Stewart on wing. With no Gasiner he is NSW best try scoring option. Regardless of who you think is better fullback, there no doubt he is their best option in attack.
