Raina must've cemented his place when Sachin comes back. Really loving how he's looked since the IPL. It's early but fingers crossed that could've been a breakout tournament for him like the World T20 was for Gambhir.

And Gony maybe not quite ready for ODI's yet. I know it's only a couple of matches but I think he needs more experience. Seems very one length and one paced right now. Great stuff by Alok though, gunnest knock.

India's batting looks scary awesome. They will be tough to beat in a single match in this tournament.

but their bowling and fielding leave too much to be desired..even bangladesh is smashing them up...they can't expect the batting to bail them out every time...

They can in this tournament. They don't have to worry much about facing quality bowling. I'd take India's bowling, as bad as it's been, over the other teams. Which team really worries you? Like we saw in the Pak/Ind match, India won chasing a target of 300 in essentially 15 overs!

India has lost too many ODI finals in the last few years for a supporter to feel truly confident. The fact is that chasing 280-300 suddenly becomes a lot more difficult when it's the final no matter how good the batting or how crappy the bowling. We saw that in the Kitply final.

I am of the school of thought which believes that it's usually better to put the runs up in a final and let the other team chase under pressure. Unfortunately given India's lousy bowling performances that may not be an easy decision to make if we do reach the final and win the toss.

It could have been so different if we'd taken those catches.
I guess you are talking of BD, but could apply just as well for the Indians, as both Tamim & Alok Kapali seem to have gotten early lives too. (And the win was with 2 recognized batsmen and 7 overs to spare, the chances might not have been that decisive)

MoM in 3 consecutive games, I don't remember hearing something like this .... Go Raina go

on Indian bowling .... considering the points given below, I m not complaining
1. Powerplays up from 15 to 20 overs
2. Flat tracks
3. Effect of 20T

Alok Kapali's innings last night was immense, the fastest ODI century by a Bangladeshi batsman. Highlights on YouTube if people are interested.

What impressed me the most was the effortless nature by which Kapali hit his runs. It seemed as though he was barely striking the ball and it was racing to the boundary, definitely good signs for him. The only negative from his innings is that it should have ended on 25, and then 100, but fair play to him for making the most of his chances and getting Bangladesh to a pretty good score. I thought he should have been given MOTM instead of Raina, but so often it's not the case when a brilliant innings comes in a losing cause.

Of course it was disappointing that Bangladesh couldn't manage to hold their catches otherwise Gambhir would have been gone for 56 and Raina for 16, the game could have been totally different. I'm still pretty pleased with how the boys went, especially Tamim Iqbal at the top of the order. He's been in excellent form this year, averaging 36 with a strike rate of 75, and it hasn't been just against minnows either, with a couple 60's against Pakistan and now this half-century against India. He's developing as a cricket and it bodes very well for the future of Bangladesh cricket.

I really think that if a few selectorial issues were sorted that Bangladesh could well be an ODI standard team and cause a few upsets amongst some of the bigger nations. Shahriar Nafees scored two half-centuries and an unbeaten 90 against Ireland back in March and was then only given a few games grace against Pakistan before being dropped. He's a far superior batsman to Nazimuddin and should have played against the UAE to regain his confidence. Saqibul Hasan should also be playing, ideally slotting in at 4/5 and bowling a full quota of overs every game. Syed Rasel is playing for Bangladesh A at the moment, and once he fully recovers from his injury then I think the Bangladesh side should look something like this. The only players whose position in the side could be debated is Alok Kapali (there on form) and Shahadat Hossain (there on potential).

Tamim Iqbal
Shahriar Nafees
Mohammad Ashraful (c)
Raqibul Hasan
Saqibul Hasan
Alok Kapali
Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
Mashrafe Mortaza (vc)
Abdur Razzak
Syed Rasel
Shahadat Hossain

Who would you like to see Tendulkar replace? From what I can see the options are dropping Sehwag or Gambhir and have Tendulkar open with the one who is left with Raina at #3, or dropping Rohit Sharma, and having Raina at #4.

I've been super impressed with Raina in this tournament though, we've known for a long time that he is a batsman of huge potential as he averages over 50 for Uttar Pradesh, Central Zone and India A. I'm glad to see him finally making runs and hopefully he continues that against some tougher opposition in the future.

I'm still looking forward to a Tamim in full flight. He's definitely being treated right and has improved his game immensely but I'm yet to see a 60-ball century like he was doing week-in week-out for the U19s.

So good to see Alok Kapali scoring runs. Always had it in him, love his technique. Really hope he kicks on and makes himself a permanent fixture in the team.

Tamim Iqbal is a very talented player.......

Tendulkar at four, in place of Rohit Sharma, would make a very powerful top six, with Raina in good form. Of course, this would change if they give Sharma a long run in SL up front and he has a fantastic tournament.

The top six is fine, but the bowling is a concern, especially if they play a bowler less. Yusuf Pathan looks good enough to bowl ten overs regularly, but while economy is down, wickets are few and far between. RP Singh is inconsistent, Ishant doesn't strike much, Chawla gets hit for lots, Ojha and Gony are raw, and a lot will depend on Kumar and Irfan.

The Indians put themselves under excessive pressure by some rubbish bowling from part-timers who should never have got a bowl. Add to that Chawla having a hit-off day. While a supporter cannot control things from so far off, if the Indians can chase down two totals of this figure in comparable conditions by batting so sensibly, dropped catches notwithstanding, and more so by planning better, they can make it even in the finals.

Maybe it's a case of temperament. If they treat this as 'just another match' (which it is; this is not the World Cup or the Champions' Trophy), they shouldn't have such a problem. The real challenge, though, is chasing a total over 300. But then, that's why they play seven batsmen, isn't it?
