Fairness is applying to rules in an even manner. Spirit of cricket is something above and beyond that. It's something that sportsmen must do above following the rules and trying to win the game. It's a ridiculous notion that has no place in the professional game.

How could a lack of backing-up turn a tie into a loss?! Incredible.

Even after the ball was hit all results were still possible. Hit NZ lose. Miss with proper backing-up it's a tie. What happened happens and Eng lose.

No hand-shaking, NZ lock themselves in the dressing-room. Not good.
