right so who are you picking to win this thing?
This is going to be Kobe's Finals. Love Derek Fisher as well so would be happy to see him get another ring. Lakers are the lesser of two evils as far as I'm concerned ;)

Can someone make a comparison (whether AFL or cricket) to the type of finals series Kobe is having?

Is it something similar to a Sachin 2003 WC, or Klusener 99 WC?

I'd say Sachin 2003, always the best in important moments. That said I want the Celtics to clean the floor with the Lakers.

Well it wasn't Kobe but Paul Pierce who stepped up in the second half today. Great game, the Lakers looked really good in the second quarter but the Celtics are going to be really hard to beat at the Garden and have to be favourites for this based on having the home court.

98-88, the Celtics destroyed the Lakers second half. KG made Gasol look really soft and Odom and Vujacic looked amateurish on defence against Pierce, KG and even PJ Brown

Ray Allen went missing again too.

He's not actually having that remarkable a playoffs. His team is just a hell of a lot better than the past few years & Phil Jackson is an incredible coach.

What ? His regular season avg. points was 28.3(%.459), Playoffs he is 31.9(%.509) and rest of the playoffs stas reaming fairly consistent with his regular season. His team would be considered 'Hell of a lot better' if Bynum were playing. Not to forget Gasol's domination by TD in the Conf. finals and again by KG in the first match Vs. Celtics.

Phil is an exceptional coach, that has been known for years but it is funny that you give him credit for Lakers' success but not to KOBE.

Dude, Ray Allen scored 19 points, with 8 rebounds & 5 assists. And he did a bang up job guarding Kobe.
It's funny, I didn't even notice him all game but looking at the box scores he did alright. I thought the Celtics in general did a great job on Kobe as a team, Ray stuck with him but a double team was always nearby especially in the third and fourth quarters.

Double/Triple team usually do not work well against Kobe. IMO he was just having an off night. Let's see how the Lakers respond in Game 2. Kobe needs to have a much better game since Gasol is being swallowed by KG.

most of the lakers starters had off-nights...boston controlled kobe very well, also gasol needs to become much more aggressive if l.a wants to compete...

What do people think of Pierce's injury during the first half? Critics here keep pressing that it was faked/exaggerated to boost the team.

That has been the problem with all these arm-chair analysts these days. In stead of discussing the game, they try to keep the focus of their analysis on trivial things. It is just so boring when you are forced to hear this sort of stuff on radio/TV all the time instead of the actual game. Stuff like

Radio Host - "We will tell you what Bill Walton said about Shaq's trade, after the break"
Commercial - for 3 minutes then :-
Ding ding ding - Commercial over, Walton's voice "Shaq's arrogance is an insult...blah blah"

Radio Host :- Welcome back to so and so Radio show...Walton said this about Shaq..blah blah blah, we have in studio with us ACA1 (Arm Chair Analyst 1) to talk about this...So ACA1 welcome to our show..what do you think about this controversy....

ACA1(Black guy) - I believe Walton is blah blah blah (Insults and more insults)
Host :- So you dont believe that Walton is right in what he says...
ACA1 - I believe Walton is Blah blah blah....(insults and more insults)

Radio Host - Alright, we have on the phone another analyst ACA2, He played for Grizzlies and then coached Wizards..Remember, our conversation with ACA2 is arranged by onstar, Onstat which is so crap that no one will pay a penny for it, Welcome ACA2..just now we were discussing with ACA1, about this issue..what do you say...

ACA2(White Guy) - Thank You RH(Radio Host), You know RH, I dont really have a problem with what Bill(walton) says. You have to understand first that he(Bill) is not a bad person, Bill himself had a great career, he did so and so yada yada yada...(Diplomatic Crap and more diplomatic Crap)

RH - Allright..it is time for a break now, you heard what Bill said about Shaq's trade and also heard what our analysts ACA1 and ACA2 had to say on this. Coming up next..we all tell you Shaq's reaction to Bill's comments..stay with us...

Me - F u A holes ***Turns off the Radio***

This goes on and on everyday, they have a new controversy everyday, no one talks about the game, they talk about everything except the game. I just dont even want to follow the game anymore.

Really who cares if PP's injury was fake or exaggerated. No one will really know. I have played a lot of sport(none professionally though). Some of the times, when I have been hit or hurt, I feel that I just can not continue and after few minutes or rest or treatment I feel good enough to get out there in the middle. It's not impossible. I wake up in the morning, have severe back pain, think I can't even roll my arm, I try to gather some courage, drag myself to the cricket ground, try some warming ups, bowl a few deliveries, pain is still there. But I tell my captain that I want to play.

At around 10th over, Captain asks me If I could bowl, I say yes, I run into bowl, take a wicket and save some runs, bowl second over, another wicket, although few wides and a six, back pain gets worse. 3rd over in the trot - 2 more wickets in the over, another couple of wides...and a four.. Now I really can't bowl...Captain wants me to bowl..he comes and says you are taking wickets..motivates me..look we have never given you 4 overs in a row...this is a big step for you...I feel good..I go on bowl the 4th over - 5 wides... two more wicket though.

Now...my captain is being flat out ridiculous..he wants me to bowl the 5th one...i say no..dude I cant even run..he asks for water..gatorade..I drink some..all the team mates say..I can do it..go for it..I go and bowl 5th over..no wickets in the 5th over...10 runs.

This is just amature cricket..in a league match, outcome didn't mean much.

And here is PP, a professional, playing in the NBA finals, where he may never play again, and he comes back after an injury. Instead of praising him we hear the crap of him faking it ? What crap.

Haha, top post. I was truly reinvigorated when PP came back and got a standing ovation.

To be fair to the critics, they were probably just annoyed at the Willis Reed comparisons, which I suppose I can understand.

Kobe's not having that remarkable a post-season. Nothing that would compare to the best batsman at a Cricket World Cup. Kobe's the best player on the court, but it's the Lakers' bits and pieces that are the difference between the Finals and another first round exit. Kobe has better players around him & a better bench than previous years. Surely, you'd agree this is the best Lakers team of the post-Shaq era. Jackson does a better job of getting something from nothing than any coach in NBA history. And if the Lakers are gonna win a game in Boston, it'll be Jackson who makes the adjustments for their size and rebounding woes. Not to mention their three point shot, which Boston took away. The onus is on Jackson to figure out Boston's team defence. Kobe may end up Finals MVP. In that case he would've had a remarkable season. But there's so much more to what's going on with the Lakers than Kobe's level of play & there's more to winning basketball games than Kobe, Kobe, Kobe.

I am not going to repeat the same thing I said. I am a Kobe fan but I will be the first one to admit that, he wont win championship on his own and neither did Tendulkar in WC 2003.

Jono's question was something along those lines.

What is funny is that you give Jackson the Credit for the success but not to Kobe when Kobe has changed his game, he is not the selfish player he used to be in last few years. Phil has benefited from it too.

Kobe's been less selfish because he trusts his teammates. Having Fisher in the backcourt has been a huge influence on him. Still, we'll see how Kobe reacts if the Lakers become gun shy.
