If the point you are making is that most people vote according to nationalities (and I am not saying you are wrong) then why do we have any polls hare at all except between players of the same nationality.

Why not just periodically conduct a "nationality census" and then tell everyone who the greatest batsmen, openers, Spinners, pacers etc in the world are. We could even rank them accurately to the nearest whole number :)

By the way, we had an Ambrose versus Lillee poll last year and Ambrose won 22:15. I did not know we have more Australians than West Indians here.
All the same, I'd be very interested to see how many Aussies voted for Ambrose. Be amazed if it was more than 1 or 2.

No, no, of course not - but it wasn't something that had ever been seen in England before then. Had English bowlers learned about it in, say, 1984, I presume there'd not have been the silly outcry there was. That outcry was based on lack of understanding. Many journalists in those days did not travel to Pakistan, and hence would never have seen it before.

Yeah, I'm sure there might've been, but if so I wonder who they were. Unfortunately I don't remember who it was that was making the cheating allegations - I was only 6 in 1992. The only piece I've ever seen on it was by Jack Bannister in Wisden where he alluded to the fact that perhaps many people had jumped to conclusions because they did not understand.
Imran had done it during playing CC for many years & also in Pakistani tours to England.Wasim Akram had also been doing it since 1987,playing for Lancashire.Above all,Sarfaraz Nawaz himself displayed it England on uncountable conditions.

Its not limited to nationality omly, many people vote those whom they have seen playing during their lives. That migh've been s factor in Lilee vs Ambrose poll.Sir,if u check, then most people who voted for Ambrose would non-Australians.

If you have two pace bowlers who've achieved similar amounts of success, I would always go for the one who is express pace over the medium pacer, as he has an extra dimension to his bowling. Same reason I would go for Marshall over Hadlee.

That's hardly a lot of help in deciding between these two trundlers.

We have had plenty of similar polls.

Here is one in which Wasim Akram 'out-voted' McGrath 2 is to 1 !!!

So Wasim is twice as good as McGrath and McGrath is better than Imran as per this one here so Imran is not much of a bowler is he. He isn't even the best bowler Pakistan ever had let alone in the world.

Don't forget, being outvoted 2 to 1 doesn't mean (neccessarily) that anyone thinks someone is twice as good as someone else.

Someone can be clearly better than someone else without being twice as good as them.

We also had Imran out-voting Akram didn't we?...Now that's some anomaly...I guess probably with too many of these comparison threads around, people don't put much thought behind their voting...They vote on impulses, and they can't be blamed because these threads are often too tiring...

I know that Richard. You can see where my sarcasm is coming from :)

Actually you should go the other way, I would have thought. You will get a lot more overs out of the one who is not straining to bowl at express pace and, hence, a lot more control over the game.
