No doubt you are better placed to argue, but I'm fairly sure you could have framed a similar argument for van Nistelrooy before he moved from PSV?
I think even at PSV it was clear Van Nistelrooy was something special; his partnership up front with Luc Nillis was the best PSV have ever had. I would call Huntelaar an average striker for Dutch stock. Which would still make him OK, I guess. I'd be interested to see if he can make the step up, but so far he hasn't delivered in the crunch matches (CL qualifying against Prague in 2007, PSV, FC Twente). Basically, the Tendulkar-like doubt of whether he can do it when it's really needed.

It doesn't help that Ajax hasn't played proper European football for a few years and will miss out on the Champions League again next year. In van Nistelrooy's time, PSV played Champions League each year to his huge benefit.

it'll be make or break time for him sooner or later, I imagine a move to Italy/Spain is on the cards, if he makes a good go of it then he could start to justify the hype, if it turns sour then that could be the beginning of a Kliuvert like fall to mediocrity.

Norwood's on Fire
Dirk Kuyt bagged a hatload for Feyenoord, and in two seasons with Liverpool he's scored 15.
Played in midfield in the second year to be honest, though this probably further strengthens using him as an example...gun striker in Holland, not even played up front in England

I see France have done themselves a huge favour by leaving the massively overated David Trezeguet out of their squad, never been a fan of this guy tbh, good goal scoring record, but whenever I have seen him he has looked very out of his depth.

Trezeguet's dropping was not really a surprise to me. Domenech was never a big fan of him and I think France have plenty of striking options anyway with Anelka, Henry, the versatile Govou and the upcoming Benzema.

Anelka, Henry? Smells of yesterday.

Now that EURO 2008 is the big focus, the fact that England won't be participating is a huge let down regardless of the fact them missing it was key to the shaking up of the national side.

Although i have great for the Spanish side i really can't go past Italy to be outright winners especially if they come out their group.

I would love to see Italy win it while not coming out of their group. Should be quite a story.

I'd like to see France play this side:

Benzema Henry

Malouda Nasri Ribery

Viera

Evra Gallas Mexes Sagnol

Coupet

Good strength all round the park there.....I think France have a decent chance of winning Euro 2008. THe key's probably making a sound start against Romania.

Can't see Domenech (spell check) not picking Makelele TBH, especially given that he made such a big deal to keep him playing international football after the WC, don't think .

Evra/Abidal is very close no doubt but i'll tip Abidal to start given is solid defensive game.

Mexes/Thuram - Thuram does look pretty slow these days againts fast strikers could very well & be on the bench though, but we'll see..

i reckon that the dutch have a great chance at 12/1 with their talent i think it would be well worth a flutter
