**Official** New Zealand in England

Southee has bowled 3 overs. Why, pray tell me, was he played in this test over Mason/O'Brien again?

Seems like the NZ selectors have been influenced a bit too much by media hype. Unusual really, they've usually been good at ignoring the tripe that gets dished up over selection.
Because it has been off and on, they have been able to bowl the more experienced guys often, as their rest has often been during rain breaks, bad light breaks.

And the reason he got taken off after only 3 overs is because he got whacked for 14 off one over. Since then, bad light, bad light, bad light, rain, rain, rain. So Martin and Mills were able to bowl a lot, then Oram.

Southee was warming up to bowl just before Oram got his wicket.

Also fair to say that if we don't develop another bowler we are going to go into a vacuum in a few seasons' time. We need another spearhead to partner Martin, who did a great job replacing Bond's mantra as our go-to bowler. How many more seasons are left in these guys?

Martin - 34
Mason - 34
O Brien - 32
Mills - 29 (Breakdown candidate)
Oram - 29 (Breakdown candidate)

Perhaps "great job" is a bit of an overstatement when it comes to Martin. He's not done a whole lot against Test standard teams of late. Very much middle of the road, except for the odd burst.
