NBA 07-08 season thread

Dont know If I agree with the choice. Is it the best Season Kobe has ever had ? I am great fan of his and believe that he has been the best player in the NBA for the last 4-5 seasons by quite a distance but I believe this year Chris Paul should have been the MVP (or at least they should have shared the award).
I think any one of Kobe, CP3, or Lebron could've deservingly won the award. They gave it to Kobe on a "career achievement" basis. Chris Paul and Lebron will win some MVP's in the future, of that I have no doubt.

the spurs stay alive...but chris paul has been unstoppable and it is going to be tough for them in game 4...

I find it amusing that you say nothing of his remarkable performances throughout the season, and in the first series, yet the guy has 2 poor games and you jump all over his back. Looks to me like you're nothing short of utterly bias against the bloke for no good reason.

lebron will do better at home, no doubt...on another note, the jazz earn themselves a hard-fought victory to stay alive in the 2nd round...

Why would I have any bias against Lebron (except that he plays for Cleveland and myself a Steeler fan;) ).

To be serious, I have watched him play a no. of times and based on what I have watched, I do not consider him anywhere as good as the great ones he is often compared to. Often he is considered as the best player since Jordan which is pure bull crap. IMO he isn't even among the current top 5 players in the NBA.

In the current series he is 8/42 in shooting and let's not even count the amount of turnovers he has commited in this series so far. His 10+ turnovers cost Cleveland the 1st game.

That said, I watched him every time hoping that he proves me wrong, unfortunately he has not and I dont thinkj he is ever going to be as good as Kobe.

Lebron didn't exactly put up 30-7-7 for laughs. The Celtics did a number on him in Boston because their defence is so good. I wouldn't give James MVP because he sulked all season. The same with Kobe. He didn't even wanna play for the team at the beginning of the season. MVP was either Paul or Garnett.

he had an exceptional season stats-wise and his points and assists meant all the difference to the cavs as he sparkled at the offensive end, but i just feel that his rebound tally flatters him a tad right now...for all the triple-doubles and double-doubles, he is not really an aggressive rebounder on either end and mostly picks up tame rebounds...one reason why he hasn't been anything more than an average defender so far in his career, of course he has plenty of time to improve but that's one area where he still lags behind someone like bryant....

all that said, tonight was another poor shooting night, the celtics defense has had his number so far but luckily for him and mike brown, the other cavs came to play....and the celtics' road woes continue...they have to perform better than this on the road if they want to win a championship....

Nail on head. LBJ is a magnificent offensive force and definitely in Kobe's league BUT Kobe's an All-Star level defender while LeBron constantly shirks away from guarding the best player on any other team as he's ben manhandled by guys like Kobe, Caron and Melo in the past.

I know he's a walking ESPN commercial and has been consistently touted as being a magnificent leader but he doesn't take enough responsibility on D to be considered the greatest since MJ or the "new Magic" like I've heard.

This I disagree. From what one has observed, (in Playoffs) he feasts on against weaker teams like Wizards etc and struggles against great teams. I watched Kobe in NBA finals against Pacersin 2000..and man he would jst take over on days/nights when Shaq struggled.

Watch the confidence, clock management and the quality of the shots ..just amazing. I just dont see that that skill level in Lebron's game.

People saying that Lebron is better than Kobe was at this age is simply incorrect IMO. He sure is bigger than Kobe, but better no way.

He did destroy the Pistons last year in the ECF though, I think you're asking too much of a guy his age on a team where he was minimal offensive help. Kobe still had other guys (other than Shaq) who could more than contribute night in night out.

It took a while for Jordan's defensive abilities to match his offensive skills & I don't think Magic or Bird were ever great defenders, not in a one-on-one match-up. That's what Cooper and Dennis Johnson provided.

Kobe's performance against the Pacers wasn't as impressive as Lebron against the Pistons last year. I'm not a fan of either, so I won't squabble. Lebron's having a horror series (the worst shooting % of any three-game stretch in playoff history since the 1977-78 ABA-NBA merger), but Kobe's had some shockers in his time.

I don't understand how Boston went from the best road team in the league to 0-4 in the playoffs, but there you have it. Meanwhile the Pistons have a really good chance of making it back to the Finals, provided Billups isn't done for the post-season. Talk about your wake-up calls.

Kirilenko looked like his old AK47 self. Those clutch plays against Kobe =

At least the top 4 in the West are giving us great series.' The East is a snoozefest in comparison.

There's no place like home! :)
yeah plus depending on how serious bryant's back injury is, the jazz now have a real sniff at winning...san antonio still need to overcome their issues in new orleans, they have the experience and they still have the passion, but they are a much older team and if they allow this to go to game 7, it might be tough for them....

the celts are in big trouble, hopeless on the road even with lebron shooting extremely low percentages is a very bad sign...none of their big three are having any significant impact on the games...if they are going to rely just on home wins, they are not going to win the east...

That ferocious dunk that Lebron had over KG was awe inspiring! I thought dunks like that only happened against the Mavs...
