Can't believe Kent at the moment - they can't get rid of tailenders and they can't bat to save their lives. It's just as well we 'bat' down to 10, otherwise we'd never make it to triple figures. And even that's not a certainty this morning. Fabulous. :@

So is Tredwell your next best opener, after Key and Denly? TBF, he's about the only one that showed any fight, for your lot.

Not just Onions> Harmison, Kileen>Harmison. Oh and has Plunkers been dropped by Durham?

I don't know what to think about Onions myself, he looks okay, but not sure he's got what it takes to get Test batsmen out.

I think Plunkett is injured - side strain or somesuch, IIRC.

Interesting to see that Harmison bowled less overs than Onions, Killeen or Davies. Cosniderably less than the first two in that list.

Probably - Van Jaarsveld could open (coming in at no.3 for Kent, he often faces before the no.2) and Dexter has done so before, but Tredwell has scored some decent runs opening the batting before.

Anyway, at least we've avoided the follow on. Arafat isn't a bad no.11 really - it's be nice to see our record 10th wicket stand of 235 get broken :whistling

Thanks for the answers, guys.:)

I would be laughing at play everywhere except Old Trafford, but it's not exactly helping Somersets cause.8-)

One of those 'tailenders' once batted at No.3 for a certain National team

Just looked at the Yorks scorecard and I see Bond is playing for Hants. Last I heard was he wasnt allowed and he was an ICL outcast.

What happened?
He and Hamish Marshall were cleared at the last minute to play for their respective counties. I don't remember the specifics of it, but I'll look it up now.

Bond took career-best figures in his first innings bowling for Hampshire, so it's just as good for them that they got him cleared.

EDIT: Apparently NZC ultimately caved to some extent, allowing the players to play.

Considering he has an FC average of 8.75, I'd say that he justifies the tag. My point is that Kent are often pretty proficient at getting rid of the supposedly better top and middle order batsmen, before struggling to dislodge no. 8, 9, 10 and 11. Hopefully that won't happen this morning.

Could be one of few matches where the last five partnerships in every innings scores more than the first five.

Klokker playing for Derbyshire! :) (but scored eight and did not keep wicket...)

Bit disappointing to see that Kent don't seem to be going for it, considering how much batting depth they have. Bit of a fear factor where Mushy's concerned, obviously.

Wonder if it would've been different if Key had been in charge, what's up with him anyway?

Apparently he came down with a virus right before the game. I guess that sending Arafat in at 4 was an attempt to force the pace and win the game, but with the Mushy factor, I'd probably just about rather make sure of the draw than go for the win and end up with nothing.

Off to the Grange tomorrow to watch the Scots take on Lancs. Will be interesting to see a certain Mr Flintoff playing who I've not seen live.

Brad Hodge has jumped ship to the IPL for five weeks. Faf du Plessis should be arriving in the UK anytime soon so presumably he will just slot in for Hodge and despite being a part-timer Faf’s leg-spin is probably no worse than what Marshall sends down as well.

Also, Charl Langeveldt has joined Derbyshire on a two year Kolpak deal thus ending his career with South Africa. Good coup for Derby and apparently his playing today.

Although, its pretty strange how Langeveldt was given clearance to play whilst Friedel de Wet, Justin Kemp, Andrew Hall and Johan van der Wath were all refused permission to play by the ECB not because of their ties with the ICL (in the cases of the latter three) but due to their prior involvement with the South African national team (de Wet with RSA A) in the past twelve months. Yet, Charl was only playing for South Africa last month…
