Karachi and Warwickshire played out an entertaining fixture, today at the Karachi stadium in Pakistan. A quite unremarkable match with Karachi prevailing by 4 wickets. Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat.
Warwickshire got off to a bad start though, with the Rawalpindi Express bowling a full inswinger, at 96.7mph, to Darren Maddy and getting him plumb lbw. However, the Shiremen consolidated, with Jeffrey giving stolid support to Carter, while the scoring rate crawled along, before Karachi got another breakthrough. This time in the form of Jeffrey, trying to cut the ball from Hussain, but the ball speeding onto him, keeping low, and uprooting his off stump. Carter scampered along now with J Trott, for company, who managed to keep the scoring going along at a fairly fast click. Carter tried to up the scoring quick runs, trying to improve his SR, but caught on the boundary by Bin Nazir, Hussain picking up his second scalp. Ramprakash and Trott then led their team to 255-3 in their 50 overs, with Trott narrowly missing out on his hundred. A respectable total but by no means a unchaseable one.
Karachi started their innings in similar fashion, with a mix-up between Patel and Bin-Nazir, with both batsman at one end. The manager was seen shaking his head in frustration. However, Bin Nazir and Jenkins got on with it, sharing a 86 run partnership before O Gayle stepped in, and decided to cause a few tremors in the Karachi dressing room. First getting Bin Nazir lbw, then took out M Baig, and S Kabir for no run, and then the Karachi captain, Younis Khan. Jenkins watching this, with a dejected look on his face, soon departed as well to the same bowler. With Gayle now with a 5-fer, Karachi six wickets down, and still 124 runs to go, the chase looked mighty interesting. However, Mansoon and Froggett, and batted with authority, to turn a potentially sticky situation into a easy chase, Mansoon topscoring with 68(57), and Froggett ably supporting him with a classy 55(52).
Manager Gaurav Nayak was quite pleased with his team's performance. Quotes:
"Yep, I think we all gelled together, team effort today, no one scored a century, or took a 5-fer but we still won, nice effort by all the boys."
