I m not reading that article

The popularity depends upon marketing and IPL is a high profile event, with everyone from film stars to corporates supporting it

2ndly no one is saying that overseas players should not play, so whats your point? why are you making it an overseas vs domestic thing? An increase to 5 overseas players, from 4, is fine. more than that would be an overkill as Indians also want to see the domestic players in action .... it's the blend of overseas and indians thats working

It’s targeted towards Indians yet; last year’s purely Indian 20/20 domestic competition was a complete failure with audiences who held no interest in seeing their domestic players in action. Let’s not forget that in yesterday's game the Jaipur supporters were screaming 'Watson'.
Yes, but Watson is a bigger name than most of the others would be if it were opened up. As I said, past the top thirty names or so, I don't believe for a second that there is any pull from the rest of the international stars. So you might as well fill in with cheaper domestic players.

And cheering for Watson, dosent imply that ppl don't want domestic players or don't cheer for domestic players so thats a flawed logic

Interesting game, another one that disproves some of the cobblers T20-haters come out with (no ebb and flow, bowlers are just there to feed the batsmen etc.).

Could this be the first IPL match where an Indian is man of the match?

I’ve tried to watch as many games as possible but my only disappointment so far is seeing champion cricketers playing alongside very ordinary domestic players. Today there is going to be a situation where the likes of Herschelle Gibbs is going to be confined to the bench whilst some non-descript cricketer that even the home supporters couldn’t recognise from Adam plays. I’m all for given the Indian U19 kids a go (for the most part they are extremely talented) but has-beens such as Bangar, Joshi hold little interest for me and doubtlessly the majority of the supporters.

If the IPL is going to truly explode the foreign count has to be increased.
There needs to be atleast a limit of six overseas players at the max. If you open it fully all you will get is 2nd rate domestic players from other countries like Ronchi, Geeves and Thornley filling in posts. It will make no real difference if you had these guys playing or average Indian domestic players.

Also having these guys adds some charater to the league as well. A sort of David v Golath concept. Most of the guys that have made these sides are of pretty decent standard and play in the Zonal competitions. In comparison to the International players they might look like fillers. But most are better then average and provide as much value to the teams as 2nd rate overseas players.

Symonds: 2 overs 35 runs, including 30 in his last over. Ridiculous. Bangar with 30 in his two overs as well.

And I am so glad that the better bowling lineup won, instead of the batting. Same thing happened with Jaipur and Warne. Shows that good bowling is paramount even here.

McGrath and Warne are winning, Symonds is getting tonked for 30 runs, Mike Hussey is scoring runs and Dravid and Kallis won their last game.

I'm about as happy as you can be with the results so far.

Deccan had better be scoring 250+ if they wanna win with Bangar as 3rd bowler and Symonds as 5th bowler. I know there was a time when Symonds was successful bowling in Twenty20, but the game has moved on and he's just cannon fodder most of the time now.

Edit: Ooh flurry of posts.

350k and 450k for Warne and McGrath are looking mighty fine steals compared to 1.3million for Symonds right about now. At least the teams might be getting their money back with Dhoni's 1.5m via advertising in India.

Another Sehwag special seals the deal .... would love to see Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians final

Rohit Sharma gave some respectable to Chargers total .... Only if he were playing for Mumbai .... I don't think a Dravid or a Kallis would have done what that youngster did if they were in that position
