Now that the IPL is up and running, I wonder how the ICL players are looking at it..with the packed grounds, top quality players involved etc.

Shane Bond comes to mind...I wonder if he's holding any regrets?
i think that too.. i mean that 70 000 crowd at Eden Gardens would something you would dream to play at... that game b/w kolkata and deccan was pure theatre haha.. everything ahppening

will interest die down as the tournament progresses? mine hasnt but i feel others have a bit

Whatever it takes!!!
My sentiments summed up in a nutshell - good post! agreed thoroughly
he is such a tactician.. love his aggressive style of captaincy

he tossed it up nicely too... Murali hardly ever does in this format, he thinks very defensively at times (not just this form but in general)

also you can tell he is a massive influence to the young players in his team... that leggy Salunke (?) must be learning heaps about leg spin... they will get better as time goes on with the great man

cant wait till tonight.... McGrath to Gilchrist first ball... hope Deccan bat first
If he is able to get so much out of a team like Jaipur, imagine what he would do for a team like Mumbai or Chennai or Bangalore.... I think any of these 3 teams could have bid a bit higher and got him in... Warne in the chennai team would have been so much more of a value additon than Murali. IN fact, I think they could have picked him up instead of any one of the kiwis even... Warne and Murali together would have been GOLD. :)

Having seen the Royals last evening (I am a supporter of the Indians), I do like the look of that team. They are missing Smith, Morkel, Younis Khan and Tanvir, and Yusuf Pathan isn't in the best of form, but Warne has marshalled his relatively limited resources quite well. Watson has been quite forceful in that match, and has looked world class there. Warne himself has been very clever, and could get a lot out of that wicket. But the most remarkable aspect is how he's got a lot out of Dinesh Salunkhe and Ravindra Jadeja. But what has he been telling Munaf? That's a much-improved performance here, but they have been a little inadequate on the field this time around- few catches stuck.

Looking at how many catches have gone down, and how many fours went through fielders, I must ask- is the hot and humid April weather wearing down the fielding? It's not just inexperienced players, but even seasoned pros like Kaif, Punter and Yuvraj have looked a little out of sorts on the field. Dew factor was remarkable in the last match.

On the news this morning they said that the IPL this weekend rated quite a bit bigger than India's T20 world cup matches and higher than the most popular soaps have been getting. There are also record numbers of women watching the cricket in India too.

Also, they said Mumbai has comfortably the biggest % of viewers tuned in out of all the major cities but Kolkata was the most watched team nationally. No International figures been released yet.

International Captain
Yuvraj Singh has got to be the worst choice for captain. He is NOT leadership material at all and would be outcaptained by everybody else in the Indian and Punjab sides. Kumar Sangakkara or Mahela Jayawardene would've been much better picks. If you had to pick an Indian, Irfan Pathan would've been a better choice than Yuvraj as well.

Hmm, I haven't been impressed by Yuvi so far and I was a bit sceptical about his ability to lead at the start but I'm giving him some time to win me over. Must be an overwhelming experience for a younger bloke like him to handle, especially considering his opposition.

He's got a great presence about him but I do doubt his discipline and cricketing brain sometimes.

State Vice-Captain
ha ha, so the Aussies are starring; no surprise there  But, seriously, VVS failing :( he couldn't be less cut out for the 20/20 format if he tried :D

Agree with your point.. Yuvraj has shown neither the mentality nor spirit to be given with the responsibility of leading a team. On the captain issue, Laxman has also been rather unimpressive. Nothing against Laxman, great player, however on several occasions in the prvs match, every suggestion made by Symonds or Gilchrist was immediately followed without protest. Sure, input by experienced international players is vital in a team's success, however this input should not override the captain's ability to make independent decisions. The point is only further emphasized by the fact that the only debut in the Knight Riders/ Chargers match was Laxman, the captain himself. Very puzzling..

Never been much good at the captaincy thing, our Sachin.. :)
what an understatement!!! .... i think he is one of the finest captains, if you would have seen his captaincy in domestics. he lead the only domestic team, B'bay, to a victory over Australians, he single handedly brought B'bay close to winning against ROI, which had many international players. His ability to motivate and influence others in the team is remarkable .... It isn't surprising that competitive some of the lower rated sides have been under him, be it that dud team India that he captained, the underdogs B'bay beating the Aus, etc

Mumbai Indians is a good side overall, what it lacks is quality bowlers from the domestics. a side with Jayasuriya, Tendulkar, Loots [Ronchi], Uthappa, Pollock, Bravo and Bhajji can't be a bad selection

Ronchi looked promising in the first game, he was only undone by a gr8 catch by Kohli. His keeping was pretty good. You can't call that a bad selection. Malinga has been injured so that obviously hurt B'bay plans. Malinga and Pollock opening would have been a cool combination. Bravo is the replacement for Malinga and that appears to be a good selection too. Loots has set the field on fire in the RSA T20 domestics from what I have read on this board

ok... hate to get involved in this again... He is an excellent motivator, an excellent team mate, an excellent senior player to have around. And he is always full of ideas and tactics and is, as such, a great guy to have as vice captain or simply as a player in your side.

But captaincy is also about selection... He has failed waaaaaay too often in that regard. And if you want to know why India were so poor when he was captain, have a look at some of his selections. It is pretty much a proven thing that he doesn't have the best eye in terms of spotting talent. Nilesh Kulkarni, Jacob Martin, MSK Prasad, Abey Kuruvilla, AA himself, the list is rather long......... I am not saying he is the worst, but he is not as good as a Sourav is or an Imran Khan was. In fact, the same could be said of Dravid. Both of them don't seem to have the best eye when it comes to spotting talent.
