No *you* have to justify why someone who's only just scraped his Test average fractionally below 30 is the best bowler in the world at the moment, the burden of proof lies with you not me.

Lee's scraped a few good Tests together in favourable conditions and against batsmen who've a weakness against that combination. So what? Season before last he was average, season before that... average. He's not in the top 3 of either bowler rankings either.

Who brings in career Test averages when discussing who is the best bowler in the world in a Twenty20 thread?

"School of hard knocks" - he's really had to work for his chance

Basically, it's gut feel!

He's been earmarked as an OZ player for a long time and has suffered from injuries at every turn.

Australia won't ne no.1 forever and eventually they'll turn to him and I believe he'll succeed - nothing more
I agree with all of that, in regards to his batting. You'll struggle to find a bigger Watto fan on this site than me other than DCYE obviously, but I don't see him as a captain really. He could be a great bat, but a captain? I somehow doubt it.

Who is a better bowler than Brett Lee atm? Murali hasn't done too much in ODIs for a while.
atm Daniel Vettori, last 12 months has a ODI average of 21, ranked number 1 ODI bowler, also has a 20/20 average of 16. Infact lee is ranked 9th best ODI bowler.

Anyways, fell asleep between innings so was delighted to hear Rajasthan won and especially at the hands of Watto (!!!) who had been ordinary all night before that with the ball. Warne was brilliant, singlehandedly changed the game with that Sangas c&b. Sangakkara was looking really ominous, so to get him out early and then increase the pressure and take two more wickets from there was really special and really turned the game. The fielding was comically woeful, Lehmann and Kaif's drops were shockers and the ground fielding at times wasn't much better (in the first innings, didn't see the second).

If you say 'best bowler in the world' then that's a pretty generic statement, the thread alone does not make it specific to a given format.

it's nice to see the Royals win .... one inning can change things so even though a side may look not that gr8 on paper, the games are usually close

a few more such wins and the Rajasthan Royals, the underdogs, could find itself in the semis .... many times we see upsets in a tournament and not all of the top four sides on paper make it to the semis

Let's look at the MOTM of the first 6 matches

Match 1: B McCullum
Match 2: M Hussey
Match 3: F Maharoof
Match 4: D Hussey
Match 5: M Boucher
Match 6: S Watson

Anyone else detecting a trend? Pull your fingers out Indian players!

Isnt that orange cap thing cool... McCullums gonna wear it all season.. i cant see someone taking that score down....

Is there one for the bowler?

and why is ther s a semi final..

after the round robin the two top teams should have a best of three.. with the top team of the round getting home advantage..

Now that the IPL is up and running, I wonder how the ICL players are looking at it..with the packed grounds, top quality players involved etc.

Shane Bond comes to mind...I wonder if he's holding any regrets?

Loved watching that game so much. Watto officially my third favourite player and my favourite batsman to watch. So, so awesome.

Hats off to u ...Warnie.
What a performace!! Never thought he would ever have an impact in 20-20s, that too after retirement.
Well done Shanes..

Whatever it takes!!!
Man, Warne is a good captain. Absolutely LOVED the fact that he was bowling with a slip in the 17th or 18th over of a T20 game.. Esp. given that the batting side were actually batting first and not chasing a target (in which case sometimes captains do get a slip in, either to squeeze on the pressure or in sheer desperation)... Would have LOVED to see Warney in Chennai instead of Murali, the man offers more than just a world class spin bowling option.....

My sentiments summed up in a nutshell - good post! agreed thoroughly
he is such a tactician.. love his aggressive style of captaincy

he tossed it up nicely too... Murali hardly ever does in this format, he thinks very defensively at times (not just this form but in general)

also you can tell he is a massive influence to the young players in his team... that leggy Salunke (?) must be learning heaps about leg spin... they will get better as time goes on with the great man

cant wait till tonight.... McGrath to Gilchrist first ball... hope Deccan bat first
