Ryan Campbell's efforts on the pre-match and between-innings stuff for 10 in Australia is not flash.
He could start by becoming aware of whoe Engineer is. His comments about him afte rthe toss "He's some legend over there, dunno he is" showed he has a lack of interest/ knowledge re. the game's history.

Didn't see th two later games, but hagve to say Symonds effort on that deck was very good. Also noted umpire Bowden's idea of what constitutes an LBW dismissal has not advanced since the 2005 Ashes series.

Doesn't mean that they are better T20 cricketers. Dravid and Kallis refuse to play those uncnventional shots, rarely try to hit the good balls, dont take much risks etc.

They are great cricketers no doubt, but T20 is not for them, it is so obvious. I would definately take Uthapa ahead of Kallis/Dravid in T20 format. Banglore would have lot today , if Dravid had stayed for few more overs.
We'll see at the end of the tournament. I think you'll be surprised.

Most players of most sports aren't really history buffs, though. Guys like Steve Waugh are the exception. Still, a bit of effort to find out who Engineer is would go a long way.

As for the LBW's, Ponting's was a shocker. Always happens when you're out of form, suddenly, as if the cricketing Universe has decided that taking away your ability to play the game wasn't enough, it then takes steps to prevent you from regaining form.

As Randy Pausch said though, "...brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” Let's see how Ponting gets over his wall.

i'd have to say that it was painful to watch robin uthappa bat today. Dravid, Kallis, and Boucher looked like proper cricket players. Uthappa looked like some guy who just came from the gully. I hated watching him try that stupid scoop shot ball after ball. If he had played more conventional shots for those few deliveries, the extra runs could have been the difference in the match.

At the same time, I believe that any batsman needs to be creative and sometimes play unconvential shots, but that should not be the basis of their entire batting style. Sachin Tendulkar is great because he plays the orthodox shots perfectly, but at the same time he will pull those unconventional scoops and paddle sweeps out of seemingly nowhere.

I wanted Mumbai to win, but it won't surprise me if Bangalore make it far in the tournament - especially when Steyn comes in....

Not sure why you can complain tbh, it pitched on middle-leg and straightened, hawk-eye showed it was just going over leg. I've seen much worse given.

Any word on the Aussie that was hit in the other game?

Have I mentioned that I hate Ashish Nehra? Tough times ahead if he's still frontlining when the more explosive teams come around.

Good stuff from the arseys though. 2 great games yesterday as well

Goodness ret is dire.

Awesome win by Bangalore. Loving the more traditional side getting up. Thought Uthappa's innings was great. Get Noffers innnnnnn

Didn't see the other bloke get hit, sorry.

Well, part of considering whether the ball is going to hit the stumps tends to be whether it's going over the top. Have a look where it hit him - above the roll on the forward stroke. Ganguly's the very next ball was more out.

Billy too busy **** arsing around with the crowd to worry about getting it right, imo.

So have I. Doesn't change the fact it was an incompetant decision.

15 stitches I heard. No other word. Was shocked to see that from Zaheer. Didn't think he had it in him. Poor Dom.

Also can't believe I missed Katrina Kaif at the game!

I was out when the Deccan/Kolkata match was on, so I can't comment much. When I came home, I saw a limbo at Eden, and then the news "Power Failure at Eden Gardens". The country and every state loses loads of money with every power cut, and now it's spread to the IPL. I caught the headlights this morning, and it was a shoot-out there, with runs hard to come by. Except when Symonds was bowling.

As for the other match, Mumbai were set back by the absence of Sachin and more so Dilhara and Malinga. Their batting was quite good (except Luke Ronchi, who was a total flop), with Pollock's tiny but powerful innings being a highlight. A score of 160 was defendable by a good bowling attack. That, however, can't be said of a team that has Sanath as a frontline bowler, as he took off from 4-0-64-0, hit for two sixes by the South Africans. Nehra had a shocking comeback, and with a bowling attack that's one man down, that made things a lot tougher for the real Indian team. Zaheer has bowled himself back to contention for the national team, while Virat Kohli announced himself as an India prospect. Youngster Dhaval Kulkarni was impressive.

Mumbai needs Dilhara and Malinga sooner than later, and the likes of Nayar and Pawar should get a bowl, when they get a game.

Zaheer when fully fit is always in contetnion these days and Virat has looked an Indian prospect every time I've seen him. He was a cut above in that U-19 championship. Big prospect.

Haha what? Looked good for his 8 and kept pretty well. Hardly a total flop for 20/20.

Thought the best thing out of the T20 was the idea of a second republic referendum.

Oh, not that T20......

Its been a fun tournament to watch though it does feel fake. Unless I suddenly become Indian I don't think I'll ever get into this tournament as much as i would for an NZ 20/20 game. Great spectacle though.

I really enjoyed the TT world cup but so far the IPL has only been mildly enjoyable. In truth I am not that keen on club-based sports in general; I don't see much point in rooting for random collections of professionals.

The quality of cricket has been decent though with a nice variety of scores. The Calcutta pitch may have overdone it but I do hope there are more bowler-friendly pitches down the line.
