Yeah, El Masri was out. Holdworth took his kicking duties. Missed his first from dead straight and his second from near the sideline, but nailed his third on the sideline into the wind.

With the Roosters going down to the Knights, not only have my tips been shot, but the Titans are the outright competition leaders.

Yeah it was pretty funny.

But how did St George get that try disallowed in the second half (Matt Cooper IIRC)? Looked perfectly fine to me. Still don't think it would of made a difference but you never know.

Yeah, shocking decision.

What are your thoughts on Titans this season? Likely to be coming outright first after this week (i think). Are they the real deal or just had a flukey start. Kept pretty much the same side from last season and starting to build some decent combinations it seems.

Doubt it has been a flukey start. They have looked like a genuine team. Whether they have the back up if there are injuries to win consistently or through origin period is yet to be seen. But certainly if they keep Prince and co. fit and on the field they are genuine contenders.

How many orgin players are they likey to miss though outside Prince and maybe Bailey, Laffranchi and Harrison though. I don't think they will be hit that hard by orgin, but Prince could be a massive loss. His selection is pretty much dependent on Lockyer's fitness.

That's what I meant, without Prince I don't think they can win. Prince should be picked for Oring (but probably won't) needs to be somewhere in the 17. I think Laffranchi (court case pending) is almost a cert. Bailey will be picked if he comes back well from injury.

What a grubby bit of journalism this was on Friday.

I mean, to have a shot at a guy simply on the basis that they were born a few hundred kilometres north of the border is a low, base act in itself. Where you are born is an accident of birth - nothing more, nothing less. Then to say that because you were dropped from the Test team once, that disqualifies you from selection (while not mentioning that Andrew Johns was forced to play out of position for more than 12 Tests, while other half backs were picked ahead of him) is parochialism gone mad. Lewis is rightly there on merit.

Titans are doing well but they are a Scott Prince injury away from missing the 8 alltogether.

Scott Prince must play Origin afaic. Whilst Lockyer is Lockyer, they're nuts if they think he'll be fit in time, and it's not as if they're going to lose much (well, I'd say they're not losing anything) by having Prince in the team instead of him.

Is anyone else sick of the absolute lack of creativity in terms of last tackle options? Sick of just watching teams who are anywhere 0-30m out, just bombing to the corner.

It's because halfbacks are machines now, they are over coached and are afraid of making mistakes. All rugby league players are athletes and not footballers now, it's such a shame.

If Lockyer is fit, then he is fit. There is no way on the planet that I'd turn my back on the Thurston/Lockyer combination. Lockyer is playing this Friday, so that gives him a month of games before 21 May. When you're down there in the Cauldron of ANZ Stadium on Origin night, you need a cool hand like Lockyer. The calls for Prince are reminiscent of the calls for Bowen last year...."he's in good club form, so he must play". Then Hunt comes out, tough as nails, and silences his critics.

Form is so temporary. Class (and piloting your team to Origin glory, like Lockyer and Thurston have done for the last two years) is what I look for. We've finally found an Origin squad after all these years - after so many dark years. So long as they're in some sort of OK form and have a couple of matches under their belt, I'd need a very compelling reason to drop them - certainly something more than just 'another guy is in top NRL club form'.

And please, no Prince on the bench. You don't put a specialist halfback (a guy who can play only one position, and who won't get on unless there is an injury) on the bench.

for arguments sake this would be my Origin side for game 1

1 Karmichael Hunt (if fit, otherwise Inglis or Slater to fullback and Tate comes in)
2 Israel Folau
3 Greg Inglis
4 Justin Hodges
5 Billy Slater
6 Darren Lockyer (if fit otherwise Prince to 7 and Thurston to 6)
7 Jonathon Thurston
8 Nate Myles
9 Cam Smith
10 Petero Civoniceva
11 Carl Webb
12 Sam Thaiday
13 Dallas Johnson
Reserves
14 PJ Marsh
15 Ben Hannant
16 Michael Crocker
17 Antonio Kaufusi

That also leaves to pick from during the series if need be
Backs: Steve Bell, Brent Tate, Willie Tonga and Steve Michaels
Halves: Cooper Cronk and Scott Prince
Forwards: Aaron Payne (hooker), Jacob Lillyman, Neville Costigan, David Shillington, Michael Luck, David Stagg, Corey Parker and Brad Meyers

You've got rocks in your head if you think Prince is "just another guy in top NRL club form". Scott Prince has class, there's no 2 ways about it. I assume you've forgotten that he was actually the QLD halfback in '05, and did a pretty good job of it, until he was unfairly dropped in '06. I'd select him ahead of a 3/4 fit Lockyer or Thurston in an instant, and I'd like to think that the selectors would do the same thing.

selectors love incumbents, if Lockyer is fit he will play, I dont think anyone will dispute that, so its between Prince and Thurston for halfback and JT is the reigning Dally M winner, has won us the last two series as halfback and isnt in terrible form so he would be unlucky to miss out. Prince is more than capable and we are lucky to have such a quality replacement but he can play as well as he can between now and origin, but if locky and jt are fit then he wont be there.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing that Lockyer & JT should be the first choice pair. I'm saying that if Lockyer is still only playing off the bench for the Broncos around origin time due to fitness reasons, I wouldn't pick him.
