I think it was Lillee who said recently that Lee had become Australia's spearhead (though that's probably more to do with McGrath's recent decline in wicket-taking than anything else). Shoaib is the better bowler at the moment, though his Australian series wasn't all that impressive - his attitude wasn't right and he was bowling a lot of junk deliveries. Lee is improving his bowling, but he is still prone to lapsing into bowling too much short stuff - he got Kallis out in Melbourne with a great bouncer/yorker combo then spent almost all of the Sydney Test testing Kallis with short stuff that made Kallis look uncomfortable but wasn't going to get him out. Lee needs to put his brain into gear a bit more and figure out strategies for getting good batsmen out more often. Hopefully Australia hiring Troy Cooley will help him with that.

It were those 'junk' deliveries that initiated a mini collapse in Perth and troubled the Aussies throughout the Melbourne test, resulting in two 5'fers.

I have yet to see Version 3.0 of Lee in action so can't really comment.

the problem with Shoaib is that not only is he not particularly good (compared to Lee) in the field or wth the bat, he also only lasts 1/2 of big games....

Despite that he's better than Lee in longer format of the game !!! This itself says alot about Lee's performance!

Can we agree that digging up ancient and out dated threads like theses is incredibly irritating and the perpetrators should be chastised in some way

Indeed.. but i have never liked Akhtar, or any bowler with a slingy action ie. Tait, Malinga.. I don't mind Edwards because he is West Indian
