Seem to distinctly remember you say something along those lines before, where you were disappointed a players stats or their legacy was ruined despite them still contributing.
If a player's legacy is damaged, it's because they're not contributing any more, and are simply being picked on past glories. If they're still worth their place, their legacy is still being furthered, though not as much as it had been being earlier.
Same reason you seem to hate Bangladesh having Test status - the stat distortion, as if that's all that matters.
I hate Bangladesh having Test status because they don't deserve it, simple as. There are several negatives associated with this, statistical distortion being one of them.
And cut out the 'sensible people like you' crap, I have no time for it and its implications.
Maybe not, but I also have no time for certain types, and see no point trying to prove anything to them or convince them of anything. But the majority of people, I don't like them to get misconceived impressions.

Haha, indeed.

Fond memories of Carl Bulfin, he's the first genuinely terrible NZ cricketer I clearly remember.
The first cricketer to get into an international side thanks to hyped-up Cricket Max commentators.

The quest is on to find the top 5 most rubbish cricketers to have represented NZ in a test or ODI since 1990. Go ahead gents:

And we have the COP - 5 wickets left for us to take tomorrow. A good day's performance, though extremely fortunate with all the last 4 wickets.

Let's hope we can get a quick-ish kill (inside a session) tomorrow.

Robert Kennedy people?
Who now enjoys the local Petone song, "There's a guy works down Speight's Ale House swears he's a former test Cricketer"

I thought Murphy Su'a was average, but really there have been some shockers selected over the years, aye!

I'd forgotton Darrin Murray - thankfully. He had an exceptional record as an opener.

Any takers for Kerry Walmsley?

Did anyone manage to catch the Sky commentators' lineup squad to go to England?

No Bell and Sinclair in there. No Gillespie either / Mason is taking his place.

They had Guptill, both Gregs (Todd and Hay), Daniel Flynn, Taylor and two others as the batsmen. (one of them is B. J. Watling as an opening option)

Then they have the three all rounders - Vettori, Oram, McCullum.

Then the bowlers: Mason, Martin, Mills, Patel and Southee.

Simon Doull and Mark Greatbatch (guest on the show) both reckoned that Greg Hay can be our 'third option' to open the batting. Greatbatch was his mentor (CD) and he said he (Hay) has been an opener in the under age rep cricket.

I'd like to see Taylor and McCullum see off the new ball tomorrow and go on and get a century apeice. McCullum, in particular, really needs one at this level and will rarely get a better opportunity. Disappointing from our middle order, but hardly unexpected. With the exception of Fleming and Taylor, they're all so out of form/lacking the necessary talent.

I saw the list that the sky sports team put together and couldn't help but snigger. Martin Guptill? He only averages 25 in first class cricket! Sure he's managed to put some runs on the board in List A games, but I hardly think that qualifies him for a trip to England. Todd's been ordinary since the match early in the season were he managed a couple of hundreds, although I recognise that given how short we are of decent number 3's, the selector's hands may be forced. Hay has the track record, but he's still only played a season and a half, and gives me the impression of being a bit of a flat track bully. Would rather wait until he's had an A-tour or two before getting a promotion. Daniel Flynn seems an OK punt (and he did well again this week), but am I the only one who thinks that new young players should be debuted at home and in familiar conditions so as to ease them into the step up in quality?

I rather us blood youngster at this point, than drag Bell and Sinclair in the batting lineup. Batting has cost us this series, nothing else.

It's a flat wicket out there today, a flat track bully would have come in handy.

This list is compiled by Martin Crowe, Ian Smith and Simon Doull. Richardson didn't have any say in it apparently, he's part of the discussion, but was shut down when he mentioned a few names.

Sort of agree here and sort of don't but anyway match situation first.

We've gifted the birts wickets again. On this pitch there is no excuse not to get a decent score (not a winning score TBF but certainly a good one). The positives is we have one day, a flat pitch and three of our best (McCullum, Taylor, Vettori) still there. If the bastmen apply themselves then we can sneak a draw. Whether that will happen is the worry.

Sinclair and Elliot=bye

Bell=if he goes to England he has to get a proper technique. Either that or make a knee jerk selection with Watling or McIntosh and hope for the best.

So glad Fleming got a score and that average up over 40:happy: didn't get the hundy but hey ya can't have everything in life.

WRT the newbies. I agree about Todd. In the list A final he was playing around his front pad alot (typical NZ batsman) and Mills was very keen on LBW chances. Hay IIRC got a couple of nineties in a FC match on a complete bitch of a pitch. CDs home ground at is at Napier so there's always an opportunity to do a bit of flat track bullying and good on em, our bowling recently has been so woeful we need alot of runs. (Though I see we've stolen Richard Sherlock who took 4/36 today:cool: ) Guptill is far too young and doesn't have the record, only the ability at this stage. Flynn IMO needs to score some more before he's picked, I'm not sure on him yet.

Another name is Johan Myburgh. When he qualifies if he's still playing like he is now and someone drops form he's a good chance of getting the number three spot. I'd pick him now if I could.

Good to see Leighton Burtt get 6 wickets too, we've had some good bowlers pop out in the last few years. Also find it funny that almost every opener in the country has made a decent score today in FC cricket.

Not true had a bowlers and fielders done their job and finished England off in both the first and second innings at Wellington, then we may well have won the match and taken the series out then and there. It's only really in this match that our batting has completely flopped in proper batting conditions, and even that has been aided by the absence of Oram. And as for Bell and Sinclair, I know they need to be replaced, but I just don't see throwing young first class players with mixed records into the team in an extremely challenging environment, and hoping one or two will stick as a proper solution. They'll just get a lovely string of single figure scores and disappear with their confidence and technique shattered.

Agree to disagree. If you're good enough, you're old enough. Fleming got the captaincy at 23.

I think that when you go out to bat, first of all, clear your mind and just go and play your natural game. I just don't know what the batting psychologist and Dayle Hadlee standing around Southee while he's not bowling is doing to him. I might even add that's why his bowling dropped off in the 2nd innings.
