Thought Anderson was the second best midfielder on the pitch - behind Scholes - personally, always looked capable of playing someone through. Agree with Giggs though, as per usual these days he looked past it IMO.

I think we'll beat Arsenal, less confident about Chelsea away but I think we can get at least a draw there, which will be as good as a win given the current state of affairs.

Mascherano "stunned by sending off"

From the BBC. Some really top level denial there from the overrated Argie plodder.

"I do not know why I was sent off. When the referee showed me the second yellow card and sent me off I could not believe it."

It's not like you'd constantly carped at the ref from the whistle, is it? 8-)

Nah Anderson was in there with Giggs. Carrick and Scholes were the best.
The Giggs problem is multiplied by the fact that I'm still more comfortable with him starting than with Nani, whose sheer inconsistency makes me uncomfortable as it stands... he can be brilliant one minute and utter toilet the next. Giggs, while invisible, didn't do a lot wrong yesterday... he just wasn't in it. Plus the sentimental part of me wants him to break the appearance record.

Changing the subject, I was reading through an Arsenal forum today and was shocked by the number of calls for Wenger's head, and just generally criticizing him for his lack of activity in the transfer market. I know that club forums are usually full of twerps, so could someone such as Brumby who knows his stuff inform me whether this is a particularly widely held view? I've alwayd felt Wenger is over rated really, but still, calling for his head is way OTT I would have thought.

You serious? Thought Anderson was easily our worst. His first touch was terrible all day, he kept giving away possession trying to do something tricky and he made some very poor decisions in front of goal. Love the kid, but had his worst game in a United shirt IMO.

Anderson and Nani need time to settle and mature. No worse than Ronaldo was first season. As for Giggs, yeah he is utter pants 75% of the time now, but its those moments he isnt that you see something magic. IMO he's worth his place in the XI on the back of the fact he can, and still does, find that killer ball that turns matches.

Nani has been better than Ronaldo was in his first season, so that's encouraging, but I doubt he'll ever be as good as the great man. You can tell that Nani and Anderson go for personal glory a bit too much...try to be a bit too tricky sometimes...It's something that a lot of young, big signings do though and hopefully they'll get over that stage soon enough.

Nah. He didn't give away posession any more than he usually does - and it's part of his game due to him not always playing the percentages, and attempting the killer ball often. Played several killer balls that, given better finishing (or refereeing in one case) would have resulted in goals/penalties.

Can only assume Scaly has a few log-in IDs there.

Generally speaking Wenger is regarded as having the freedom of Islington, short of being caught fellating a small boy on the town hall steps whilst wearing a T*ttenham shirt he'd be forgiven anything. Us older heads whose memory goes back beyond the late 90s are eternally grateful for the transformation he performed at the club. Before he took over we'd finished in the top two twice (admittedly winning the championship on both occasions) since 1971. Wenger did it 8 times on the bounce. We weren't inherently a big club like Liverpool or United, but on the back of Wenger's success our board has managed to lay the foundations to make sure we will be from now on in.

The biggest gripe is the lack of English players, really. Walcott is loved way beyond his ability (actually, that may be harsh, beyond his output is probably better) simply because he's English.

Haha, fairplay. I've just realized looking at the locations that it is a predominantly American forum, so they probably don't have long memories... still, shocking.

I've changed my tune somewhat about le Arse and their lack of English players, and indeed the lack of Engish players across the board... don't mind at all any more tbh.

Satisfying day @ OT on sunday. United totally outclassed liverpool althoug deep down i'll admit i was hoping for something special from the Gerrard/Torres partnership but damn how brilliant were Rio/Vidic what a defensive rock they have become. Don't know why Mascherano was sent off TBH, he tackled scholes was booked him & Torres were around the ref talking easily it seemed a voom a red card, strange that..

Agree with setiments that Giggs was a bit invisible while Anderson/Nani seemed as if they were playing to impress but damn they are skillfull blokes close up. Also i know Rooney isn't totally suited to playing alone up front but looking at him on sunday even TBH all he needs to do is work on his first touch he could play that position effectively because he has alot of strenght for a short bloke & gets himself into some decent positions.

On the final England 23 for wednesday very suprised Agbonlahor & Young didn't make the final cut but Walcott & Downing (especially) are in.

Have said before Rooney can play alone. Only thing lacking from him being good there is his finishing form at the moment. Helps if he plays in a team like United that rotates the attack in the match allowing him to roam at times.

?!

Nothing wrong with his first touch, it's his finishing that's the problem atm, every other part of his game is top notch atm.

Just watched Swansea v Brizzle Rovers, good advert for League One football I must admit, don't think Swansea will have too many problems next year in the Championship myself.

After I posted, it was bugging me that we'd also finished second at some point in the early 70s so I checked & I was right: runners-up in 72/73. But my point stands.
