Scheduled the match to start on the same day the last round of FC cricket ended. Plus they'll be playing at Providence, having had a look at the pitch before the WI team, the home team............Oh dear.

But Barbados didn't have any game scheduled for the last round. I can think of a whole lot of Bajans I'd have preferred to see in the Select XI.

Ryan Hinds was left at the airport in Barbados on his way to the training camp in Guyana. Had a ticket but it wasn't paid for. Travel plans also messed up for Taylor, Edwards and Smith from what I've heard. This time it wasn't even in another country..

Official explanation:

What happened was (and I have documentary proof) is that we had paid for tickets for Hinds and Collins. We then told BWIA to cancell the ticket for Collins since he was no longer travelling. CAL also cancelled Hinds in error. They have acknowledged the error and has arranged for Hinds to travel tonight to Guyana.

Please note that I have proof of this.

Amit Jaggernauth bowling

Doubt many would have seen him. Only seen a few balls from him ever apart from this vid and those weren't live.
Terrible angle. Hopefully he does well against Sri Lanka, because he could do well against Australia. Alternatively he could pull a Banks and go for 200 on debut.

PS - Surprised that Murali only took 1 wicket in the Select XI first innings. Good job by the youngsters.

Ahead of Saturday's first Test against Sri Lanka, the West Indies coach, Reon King, has highlighted the middle order as the series' deciding factor
I love it when Cricinfo gets it horribly wrong.

Chris Gayle said:
"But if you look at the composition of the team, most of the time we have had all-rounders like Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith, and those guys make it difficult for spinners to get into the team."
No Chris. Favoured mediocre fast bowlers make it difficult for spinners to get into the team.

Will Benn or Jaggernauth feature in the opening Test, or are they likely to stick with the pace trio of Powell, Taylor and Edwards with spin support from Gayle and Hinds ?

Cricinfo’s probable

Chris Gayle (capt), Devon Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Marlon Samuels, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ryan Hinds, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Daren Powell, Jerome Taylor, Fidel Edwards.

Apparently Sri Lanka are going in with two frontline spinners so good to see the West Indies are likely to opt for the test and ODI part-time spin of Ryan Hinds…

If Cricinfo are right, I like the look of the batting line-up, it would just be a question if they want a specialist spinner in the side and three seamers. In that case Hinds is the likely candidate to miss out.

Ryan Hinds is not a wicket-taker, but he is more likely to take wickets than Gayle, Samuels and Lewis, who have been the spinners used over the past year. Good batsman too. But with Sarwan back, would prefer to see Jaggernauth in there. More positive selection IMO.

Have good word that both HInds and Jaggernaught have tummies. Hinds more so and that Jaggernuath wasn't outstanding but just good in practice. And yes, everyone is in Guyana.

Yeah, strange call from Gayle. If anything I'd think that a seam-bowling allrounder batting in the top 6 would encourage the selection of a spinner, as it'd allow you to pick one and still have four seam-up options.

Well he's not a specialist, but I think it's a bit harsh to call Hinds a "part-timer" given he has 151 First Class wickets at 26.74. He's certainly an allrounder AFAIC.
