*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

yeah agree that liverpool are best equipped to knock out ron and chums, hoping that arsenal miss out on drawing an english club at this stage, and dont want to see barcelona either, other than that dont really mind. Provided they get through that round I hope they then avoid man utd for as long as possible, I think Arsenal perhaps could beat man utd in a single round, but doubtful over two legs, wouldnt be surprised if we see an Arsenal vs Man Utd final tbh.
Personally, from a neutral point of view, I'm hoping for a Barcelona - Arsenal tie at some point, two quality attacking sides. I'd back you to knock them out too, given how shocking they are at the back. And like you I think that as long as they avoid each other (and Barcelona in our case) an Arsenal - United final is likely.

How the hell are we behind here?! Shocking decision IMO (to send him off, not the penalty), mind.

Come on United.

EDIT: FT. Goodbye FA Cup. Oh well, just not our day, simple as that. At least there's less games to worry about now. And the other positive is of course it shuts up the people who talk of a Treble year in, year out.

I don't usually get bothered by referees making bad decisions, but I'm really gutted right now. Robbed for a keeper charging down a player and getting kicked in the face, penalty given with no sub keeper long after we were due one at the other end.

Oh well. :(

Don't know how that one was lost based on the highlights. Only turned on the TV when Kuszczak brought down Baros. Just weren't meant to win.

Nah, Red card IMO. Poor Tommy (cbf spelling his surname) was in a catch 22, leave it and conceed a goal, or go for it and risk a red. Absolutely no doubt that once he was past the keeper it was in (after all, it wasnt Carrick).

Have the bonus from my seat that i was level with the incident, so saw first hand, straight away said 'He's off for that'. Turn round and the security box is behind me, so saw the replays, confirmed it IMO.

Portsmouth did what they had to do, and bar a bit of luck, did well.

However, something i said at HT came true. Was asking how many times has Van Der Saar gone off injured at HT or during a game, must be a fair few this year. Used to happen with Barthez n all. Was wondering when having a no 1 who cant complete 90 mins will hinder us, seems like it was today.

He wasn't the last man. Probably wouldn't have changed the game - was a definite penalty anyway - but under the laws of the game it wasn't a red.

WRT VDS - IIRC he's been off at HT four times this season, the point you raise is a good one.

Hmm, from the angle I had, OK, there were other defenders behind the keeper, but none were in a position to block/stop any momentum towards goal. Without the foul, he had an open goal, hence why i agree it was a red. Admittedly given my seat, i had a total side on view, so depth wasnt the greatest (though being back of 2nd tier, its elevated somewhat, so that helps a fair bit)

Having seen the Pompy pen on TV. Yes, still a pen, doesnt matter he hit Tommy's head, the guy went in with hands and feet to get the ball, missed, and his body brought the guy down, penalty.

As for red, well, Rooney was on the line, and he can attest himself after the 1st half clearance that theres every chance he could stop it, plus Anderson was also in a fair position to get involved. Think it might've been slightly harsh (even my brother in law agrees, and he's a Liverpool fan)

Question is, how bads Van Der Saar's injury? If he's out for more than a week, and Tommy suspended, will Ben Foster be ready to deputise?

In other news i can see why Carlos Karmeni has been linked with United in goal what an imposing figure..

Nah, he can have a blinder for almost the entire match and then make a costly ****-up, James-esque (at the start of his career anyways).

WRT FA Cup, I'm no longer bothered we went out in light of the Barsnely result, how brilliant this is for the competition.

Man U will choke in the Champions League again reckon Liverpool & Chelsea are the best bets for an English side.

Dire, only saw the highlights, how the hell did Carrick miss!
Fair play though to Pompy. Good day for the competition though.

Got through 90 minutes in midweek so while not 100% he should be ok enough.

Liverpool will be qualifie by Tuesday.

Benitez has done more in 3 years in the Champions League than Fergie has done in almoast 20.

He is no where near wining the league but he sure does know how get through cup competitions especially 2 leg European games.

Every year we get the saem old rhetoric from Old Trafford how they are best equpped in years to win the Champions League biggest squad, got the experience etc & guess what they choke & the same will happen this year.
