I think Cena was good as a Heel, and agree that Orton is better as a face, but I dont think either could succesfully reverse those roles nowadays, though obviously cena will more than likely be booed wherever he goes for the time being at least so it isnt impossible.

What I find funny is the way they try and build up people as a major heel but end up with them getting cheered, Mohammed Hassan is a good example of this, towards the end of his wwe tenure he had developed a cult following, similarly apparently the only reason big daddy V has matt Striker as a manager is because too many people were cheering him before hand.

I'm assuming you didn't mean to "agree that Orton is better as a face", 'cause that's not what I said. :p I get your drift.

You're right about V actually, I couldn't have told you whether Viscera in his last incarnation was face or heel. I was always amused by him, either way. Did you notice King calling Big Daddy V "Big Vis" at No Way Out? Amused me.

EDIT: On the subject of faces and heels, it's so funny how Floyd Mayweather's such an annoying SOB that people are cheering Big Show now. Their promo together last night on Raw was a disaster - the delay on the video feed meant they kept talking at the same time, but they were getting roughly equally big pops. It was pretty amusing overall. Not looking forward to Big Show being buried in his first big match back, though. Stupid idea.

yeah the whole thing is obviously just a big publicity stunt for both parties, mayweather is picking up a huge $20m paycheck for all his work, and wwe is dragging people into watching wrestlemania, read somewhere that they have also signed up 50Cent to do mayweather's entrance music live on stage, not sure if thats entirely accurate but wouldnt surprise me.

It seems show always gets lumbered with these stupid gimmick matches or filler feuds (the sumo match at WM21 anyone? or the barbed wire steel cage match a month before at no way out?) Be the best thing ever if show just refused to stick to the script and laid mayweather out, be worth ordering mania for that alone.

I've often wondered what would happen if someone intenionally made a massive promo/match botch on a live show, other than it being career suicide obviously. For example, if someone just kept kicking out no matter what happened, or when doing a promo instead of doing the script going off on a tangent about how the rock was coming back, and how a TNA invasion was imminent...or something crazy, though nobody would be that stupid, as no other federation in their rigt mind would ever employ someone who was sucha lose cannon lol.

Yeah, I wonder that too. Closest thing I can remember is The Godfather, under his old gimmick, Papa Shango, missing his cue for a run-in during a WrestleMania main event, and forcing an improvised finish.

Watching last night's RAW ATM - Cena seeing Regal out of his office with "God Save The Queen" was priceless. As was Jericho's Highlight Reel: "This is the show that spawned all the other imitators: The Cutting Edge, Carlito's Cabana, Are You Smarter Than A Snitsky?, Cooking With Goldberg, everything." Plus, he's got a High-Definition JeriTron 6000 now, although it's still operated by monkeys in the back.

Also, it seems there's a 3-hour WrestleMania Rewind edition of Raw next week, a tri-branded show featuring nothing but rematches from past WrestleManias. Should be interesting. They've already advertised a variety of guys like Kane and CM Punk, so it should be fairly eclectic. I'd be willing to bet we'll see Cena vs Triple H, Orton vs Undertaker, Michaels vs Jericho, CM Punk vs Mr. Kennedy, Jeff Hardy vs Edge, Ashley vs Melina, Kane vs Big Show, and probably a couple of other minor ones as well. Looking forward to it immensely though, there's the possibility for a couple of immense matches in there.

should be pretty awesome, could even see taker vs HHH or Flair, wont be seeing ashley though, for reasons unknown she's been sent home for unknown reasons, seems to be one thing after the other with her.

with regards to the godfather run in, which mania was that? i've never heard that before, sounds hilarious though.

Papa Shango was thrust into the spotlight almost immediately, running in on the Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice main event at WrestleMania VIII[6] to jump start a feud between himself and Ultimate Warrior. Actually, Shango missed his cue to run in, hitting the ring late.[citation needed] The finish was supposed to be Sid getting disqualified because of Shango breaking up the pinfall attempt by Hogan after Hulk hit the big legdrop.[citation needed] However due to Shango getting to the ring late, Sid was forced to kick out of the legdrop to save face. Sid's manager, Harvey Wippleman, then jumped on the apron, and the referee signalled for the disqualification at that point as Shango was just getting to the ring.
Yeah, there's numerous combinations for next week. As part of Regal's Triple Threat Takeover, either Orton or Triple H will be GM for next week, so I wouldn't imagine we'll see both of them in action in big matches. If we're very lucky we might get Triple H vs 'Taker, but I doubt it. Could get Triple H vs Jericho, although that would undoubtedly lead to Y2J being buried. Y2J vs Regal is also a possibility. Would love to see Michaels-Jericho but I'm not confident of it. Jeff-JBL could happen I suppose, the Hardys and the APA were involved in a match together at WM once IIRC. Imagine Tazz vs Val Venis, rematch from WM17...

yeah at WM18 lol, I seem to remember that Chuck Palumbo was also involved in that match, be funny if we get to see Jeff vs Chuck, also if Matt Hardy is back that opens the door for him to face Mysterio, or for Mysterio to face Orton....

But yes, quite right on Y2J, the longer it is before he has any involvement with HHH the better, as he will almost certainly job and then as you say be buried, which would be a disaster, stupid Paul Levesque.

Mind you, it looks like Y2J may end up being buried whoever he faces, as it seems that WWE are much more focused on pushing Jeff Hardy, Kennedy and Cena, and sooner or later Y2J will be put in a match with them so that they can go over on him I imagine, rah.

Nope, 'cause Rey's injured. Torn bicep, out for 6-9 months. When did he face Orton at 'Mania, anyway?

Yeah, it's a shame they're using Jericho as a vehicle to get other people over, usually that stage of a guy's career shouldn't come until they've exhausted their potential, which I would imagine Jericho doesn't think he has. Still got 5 years of good work left in him if he wants it.

EDIT: Oops, I totally forgot about WM22. Was thinking of one-on-one matches.

I always liked Jericho as a heel tbh, his random Jericho style insults are always classy when he's a heel 'cause they're even more nonsensical than usual.

oh man that sucks, I thought because of him being able to compete at NWO he was still good to go, man thats a bugger, 2 manias in a row on the shelf for little rey, he would have been ideal to put in the MITB as well...But yeah Y2J still has loads to offer, he is pretty much in his prime now, or near enough, and should be made the most of, the fact that Rey is now out of action also makes smackdown's roster look even weaker, and takes away another of their maineventers, so now its Batista, Edge and Taker left, draft needed methinks.

Haha, unfortunately the description isn't an original, I got it from another site. So true though. He's totally generic in every way, even has a DDT as a finisher. Mind you, Orton started out with no gimmick and a crossbody as a finisher, so there we go.

And sledger, I would be shocked if there wasn't a draft sometime between WrestleMania and Backlash. Maybe even drawn out between the two events, always liked that way of doing it. I'd expect to see Umaga to SD! to continue feuding with Batista, probably Mark Henry to RAW, Big Show to SD! permanently (he's listed there on WWE.com and not on RAW), and hopefully Jericho to SD! 'cause then it'd mean him main eventing for a while with any luck. How good would Y2J vs MVP be as a feud? Epic. Would also provide a great transition feud for MVP between losing the US title and feuding with 'Taker over the WHC. Perhaps we'll also see Carlito to SD!, to get him some more screen time? I also expect CM Punk to be a regular feature on SD!, he's ready for a proper feud now, get him out of ECW.

Going by the ECW review from last night it seems they're abandoning the Noble vs Palumbo feud (or at least concluding it with Palumbo's clean win over Noble last week) in favour of Palumbo vs Kane - can't really see the logic in that, but meh. I'm totally indifferent to Palumbo and Kane isn't ever gonna be doing anything meaningful again. As long as Jamie Noble does well out of it, I'm happy.

They're also pushing Kofi Kingston pretty hard, they even had him beat Shelton (who was on his own hard push at the time - go figure) clean last week IIRC. He looks impressively athletic - if they're willing to gamble, they might even put him in MITB.

Yeah very true, its also worth remembering that when the Rock started out as Rocky Maivia he was also very much a plain generic type of character, and look how he turned out lol.

And despite all my previous dubious outlook on wrestlemania, i'm actually quite looking forward to it now...may actually order it and take the day off to watch it....maybe...

Ric Flair should have his last match VS Sting. So fitting

Alas Sting will never work for WWF/WWE

yeah it was touted as a possibility, and I think that was what everyone wanted, too bad Sting re-signed with TNA, as I imagine he would have loved to go 1 on 1 with Flair one last time, even if it meant working for WWE on a short term basis, alas, still HBK is still a pretty great guy to face in your last match.

I really really doubt Sting would go with WWE even without TNA.

Thinking of Flair/Sting makes me wanna watch all my WCW stuff again

hmm strange move really, seeing as the Kane vs Palumbo match was just a squash, Kane kciking Palumbo's ass for the entire match apparently, similarly Noble got his head kicked in by the big show, so nothing really seems to have come out of the noble/palumbo feud whatsoever.

in other news, major leakage of wrestlemania results by WWE officials today.

**********WRESTLEMANIA SPOILER ALERT***********************************

Dave Meltzer has today confirmed that the likely winners of the two title matches at wrestlemania will be HHH and The Undertaker. Apparently taker was promised a long title reign last year till it was cut short by injury and will take up the gold for another big run with it at mania.

Similarly John Cena is meant to be leaving to work on shooting a movie in the next couple of months so his only wrestling work will be done on a part time basis, with this in mind the current plan is to put the WWE title on HHH until summertime, when he is meant to drop it to the returning Cena.

Of course these plans are subject to change at any time, but knowing the WWE I would say that this is an accurate idea of what we can expect to see come Wrestlemania, no great surprises there, not too displeased with that myself.

Would have loved to see Edge going over UT, this would have greatly upgraded Edge status as an all time great main event heel by being the first man to beat UT at Mania and as for the Raw title despite all his politics HHH does deserve the title this time around since he has been jobbing clean at the last 3 Wrestle Mania's.

sledger

Spanish_Vicente
Yeah I was thinking the same about HHH actually, he has indeed jobbed clean for the last three times hes appeared at mania, not really surprising that he is booked to win this one, hope he does and turns heel really, not really setting the world alight as a face at the moment. I'll predict the rest of the results as follows.

Finlay vs JBL - JBL to pick up dirty win here, JBL is due a push and is vince's friend so him jobbing doesnt really look like a possibility.

MITB - Jeff Hardy to come out on top here, fairly obvious I would have thought.

Matt Hardy vs MVP - Matt Hardy to win his first major title, MVP has held the strap for ages so we are due a change.

Big Show vs Mayweather - Mayweather, obviously.

Diva Match - not that I give a crap, but Maria and Candice will win so that they can put over maria and big up her playboy shoot I imagine.

other than the mainevent I dont think there are any other matches scheduled yet...
