Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Green
CW Oval
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Contrasting styles by Jamee Gray and Gaurav Nayak guided Cricket Web Red to a target of 291 and a comfortable 5-wicket win over Cricket Web Green. The batsmen put on 82 for the sixth wicket and helped their team to the target from a troublesome spot.
CW Red bowled first when they won the toss and dismissed CW Green for 231 on day one. All four of the bowlers used did well, led by 3-wicket hauls of David Kennett and Dave Watt. The top score came from young Gonzalez, notching his maiden half-century in quick time, but falling for 54. Late on the first day, CW Red began their response and progressed with ease toward stumps. The Greens pulled them back with the wicket of Aseem Sharma, out to a return catch by Mat Mitchell.
The Reds began day two on 42-1 and faced up to Mitchell in menacing mood. He nipped the ball off the seam and bowled Kenny Dobson through the gate for 6. CW Red stumbled a bit at 76-3, but recovered through the day against an inexperienced Green bowling attack. Kearsley dropped anchor with a solid 43, allowing Chris Dwyer (53) to light up the Oval with his big shots. In the end, though, it was the grit of Gray that carried the Reds into the lead. In the midst of his best season, Gray scored 82 of a total of 349. Again he missed out of a hundred, dragging a slower ball from Mitchell onto his stumps. But the lead was consolidated by the tail and finished on 118, while Mitchell took 5 for 74 for the Greens.
CW Green faced the task to bat their way back into the game with greater than two days left. They quickly erased the deficit and raced into the lead by 28 runs at stumps. The openers were unbeaten overnight and advanced their partnership to 229 when David Kearsley broke through. With his part-time medium pace he induced an edge to slip from Rob Malone jr., caught in the gully for 96. Quick wickets of Ben Read (15), Chris Raftery (1) and Sunil Reddy (5) fell after lunch, but Nick Scott, having breezed past 100, batted on confidently.
Gonzalez played well again and notched his second half-century of the game. He put on 99 with Scott as CW Green looked to be building into a powerful position. But just as Scott looked at the peak of his powers, set on 189, he lobbed a simple catch back to Kennett. The breakthrough opened the door for the Reds to return to the box seat, and they gleefully stormed through it, wrapping up the last 5 wickets for 18 runs.
Then, in search of 290, Mork and Sharma went to stumps on 51-0. Early on the last day Raftery scored a direct hit to remove Mork for 25. But a partnership of 102 for the second wicket kept the chase on track. Heading toward lunch CW Red looked in total control, until Forner sparked a revival for Green shortly before the interval. The fast bowler took 3 wickets in 11 balls and sent the Reds to lunch with 4 wickets down and still needing 122. They searched for quick wickets in the post-lunch session, but were denied during the first hour, with Dobson moving to his half-century. Then Forner returned to the attack and kicked off the second hour with his wicket, caught by Malone for 55.
Still 82 short, the Reds relied on Gray and Nayak to steady their chase. Nayak obliged with a bold and chancy knock, while Gray looked after his stumps and carefully constructed his innings. Nayak played a pull shot against Forner to bring up his fifty from 47 balls, winning the game in the process.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Colts
PDV Dome
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
The race to the five-day final stayed alive as Cricket Web Colts shrugged off Cricket Web Blue by 10 wickets at the PDV Dome. For the second time this season against the same opposition, the Blues were booed off the pitch after two collapses left them struggling to stay afloat.
The Colts relied on Jennifer Law and her 125 to rack up 322 after they were inserted. Gee Sriram bowled beautifully to take a career-best 6 for 84, and had the innings in strife at 220-6, collapsing from 141-1. But Nick Hancock continued his brave batting form and consolidated with Law in a partnership of 85. He notched 61, but was ultimately counted among Sriram's victims. The quick pitch looked a fast bowlers dream, but what unfolded could never be expected by such a celebrated franchise as CW Blue. The batsmen looked bunnies in the gaze of Greg Thomas, who went on to take 6-40 in less than 11 overs. That Pete Young topscored with 21 was a telling sign, and the home side folded for 94 in just 28.4 overs.
The spectacular collapse gave Wright the chance to enforce the follow-on. He did so with confidence, hoping to wrap the game up on day two. Instead they were faced with more positive batting and with far greater self-belief. Thamba Mamesh thumped a century from 139 balls and masterminded a double century opening partnership. It seemed CW Blue were on pace for one of the great comebacks in Dev League history, but when they had moved into the lead by 7 runs, they suffered another collapse, hardly believable in its nature.
Wright hit a tricky length and bowled with pace and fire on his way to a 7-wicket haul. It was Thomas who accounted for the openers, but Wright did the greater damage with one of the best performances of his career. Below the top two, only Luke Tyson (31) got to double figures, and captain Robert Cribb was one of three ducks as CW Blue lost 10 wickets for 82 runs. In the end they led by only 89, which they surrendered to the Colts in 19 overs. James Griffen his 6 fours and a six, but was 1 short of 50 when the game was ended. And Law wrapped up a fine personal game with 40 not out.

Masters XI v Cricket Web Black
Casston Reserve
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Dave Richards reaffirmed his batting credentials with a glowing 116, but crucially went wicketless in the fourth innings as the Masters XI overcame Cricket Web Black by 3 wickets. Inzamam-ul-Haq guided his team home with the help of Shane Warne, who participated in the winning stand for the second game running.
Twice in the game the Black top order failed, and twice the lower order came to the rescue to keep the champions alive. Reece Congdon stroked a debut century in the first innings to power a score of 270. Congdon notched a stroke-filled 106 and was primarily responsible for a recovery from 44-4. Boyd Rankin took 5 and was the chief destroyer for the Masters, closing in on 100 wickets this season. Also in good nick was Daniel Spiers, with 56 on debut, and the experienced Richards, who supplied 55 in the lower order.
The Masters responded with some initial uncertainty and lost Ed Smith (8) and Brian Lara (6) early. Geraint Jones (47) and Damien Martyn (34) stood firm, then gave way to Dale Benkenstein and another key hundred in the middle order. The South African firmed up his claims as the Masters season MVP by scoring 106 and dominating partnerships with the tail on the way to a lead of 23. He was bowled by Nick Borcich in the 97th over, the fifth victim in a haul of 5-59.
In the first innings Ash Arnold was caught hooking for a duck, and he started his second innings with a flowing cover drive. But after moving easily to 13, he went for another hook shot and snicked a catch to Jones behind the stumps. The top order crumbled on a surface with inconsistent bounce, slipping to 82-5 when Blackman mistimed a flick shot to be caught at square leg. Congdon tried to play himself positively and was dropped by Klusener when he had 20. After the let-off he upped his aggression with some stunning back foot shots, clearing the infield consistently for boundaries. On the verge of his third milestone of the game, on 49, his luck ran out. An attempted pull resulted in a top edge and a well-judged catch at deep midwicket.
The careless stroke ended a partnership of 61, but Richards was keen on continuing the CW Black fightback. He raced past Gelman to 52 with a thumping drive past mid-off. On 61 he was dropped by Jones, as the balance shifted back toward the Blacks. Gelman checked out for 53 at 279-7, leaving Richards to bat with the tail and inch the lead forward. After clipping the ball to long leg and scampering a single, Richards celebrated a magnificent hundred by kissing the turf. He then settled in again to continue his charge. He added 16 runs and nicked the ball down the legside to be ninth out. The Blacks were all out soon after for 325, and the Masters were left a tricky chase of 303.
Borcich kicked things off with a lifter to remove Ed Smith first ball into the final innings of the match. Davis then followed up with Jones for 6, and the Blacks were on course for another memorable victory. But the third wicket took shape of 136 between Lara and Martyn. CW Black again lacked penetration on a worn surface. But the seamers returned with three quick wickets, including Lara for 98, to bowl their team back into the game. When Benkenstein was bowled by Gelman for 7, lunch was taken at 203-5. The Blacks entered the afternoon session with their task clear cut. But isntead of romping to victory they struggled to even beat the bat, and created only two chances in the session. Both of the chances were taken by Borcich, first trapping Klusener lbw, then bowling Streak for 1.
The Masters needed 39 to win and the Blacks needed 3 wickets. What tension there may have been in the equation was emphatically denied by the batsmen, who knocked off the requirement in 9 overs flat.
