on the Subject of horribly used performers....has anyone seen this paul birchall incest angle? another stupid and crap looking storyline cooked up here, but from what i've seen birchall's in ring work is pretty good, though so far he has only had a few squash matches against the likes of Brian Kendrick (another being wasted) etc...

Yeah, I'm not happy that their train of thought was "Hmm, incest angle? Let's get the British dude to do it", but I'm delighted Burchill's back on TV. The girl playing his sister is also British, and is extremely hot, so that's also a plus. It was absolutely brilliant to see on Raw last week, a backstage promo containing not one, not two, but three British performers - Regal, Burchill, and Katie Lea (who herself is apparently very talented in the ring - supposedly wrestled a Ladder Match against Beth Phoenix in OVW).

Would love them to start a British stable on Raw - once the ridiculous Hornswoggle angle is over, they could have Regal as the GM who pulls the strings, Burchill as the enforcer, Katie Lea as the token woman, and Dave Taylor and D.H. Smith as a tag team, with Taylor being a sort of manager for the other guys as well. Would definitely get over, British heels always do.

haha yes concur once again, I remember a promo regal made at Armageddon 2000 to the alabama crowd that went along the lines of "its all very well to love your animals, but loving your animals is something entirely different and you should all be ashamed of yourselves" classic.

and yes agree on Kate Lea, she is very hot.

interesting apparently Vince wanted the incest angle to be done by Shane and Stephanie originally, but unsurprsingly they both refused. But then again british people usually get this sort of treatment from wwe writers, they usually all speak with a very regal (har har, please excuse the pun) accent and their entrance music is usually of the classical genre. Mind you, all ethnicities are discriminated against by the E so its hardly surprising that us brits arent exempt to it.

On the subject of discrimination, I just noted something extremely funny while watching this week's ECW - Tazz referred to Hornswoggle as "a great kid". Someone should teach him the difference between midgets and children.

that is genuinely quite funny, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

Yeah, the commentators' stupidity never ceases to amuse me. JR in particular, he might be a Hall of Famer but the guy just can't speak English.

Speaking of which, when I buy WWE DVDs over here (which is frequently as I need things to kill time with) I often watch them in French after I've done so in English, and the French commentators are far, far superior. They're extremely funny, and they don't have to worry about Vince breathing down their necks telling them to put X or Y person over in a particular way. Plus they also make references to stuff JR or King would never talk about - on the No Mercy 2007 DVD, when the "Y2J" chant goes up, they even mention the rumours that Y2J was returning, whereas the WWE themselves would have kept it as quiet as possible. They almost commentate shoot-style, it's refreshing.

yes I have major gripes with all the commentary teams in the wwe currently (the english speaking ones I mean), for those very reasons, its always hype hype hype, try to create heat, promote ppv etc... etc... I'm sure it didnt used to be that way though, back in 2000 i'm sure it wasnt as blatant as the way they do it now, its just another reason why it seems more fake nowadays than it ever has done before...

still that said, love JR really, be hard not too, slightly past it perhaps these days, but some of the Holy **** moments and other great wwe moments just wouldnt have been the same without him.

just read news on Carlito, looks like the reason he hasnt been receiving a push is due to him wanting to leave for TNA a few months back, though apparently sources have confirmed that once vince feels he has been "humbled" enough he will be granted a decent sized push, so heres to hoping that isnt screwed up somehow, either by Carlito getting the hump with the wwe, or wwe going back on their word.

tbf it was Burchill and Katie Lea who pitched the idea to the WWE, they just gave it the go-ahead. I'm mostly pissed off he stopped using the C4 as his finisher, 'cause that move was the ****.

also, Nunzio is awesome. He was a total badass as Little Guido.

I would think it would be the other way around, considering that Vince had been interested in an incest angle involving Stephanie before as well. Never heard that it was Burchill and Katie's idea itfp, and that would definitely bring a different complexion to how I view it.

watched ECW last night and was surprised to see an appearance by santino marrella, hopefully this was a one off, as it would be rubbish if he were taken off RAW at this stage.

Yeah, I think they were just looking to get him some ring time TBH, and to get Kofi Kingston in the ring against a heel who's already over. Santino needs an actual feud, but the problem with that is that part of his gimmick is he can't wrestle. They need to fix that - a few weeks where he started beating capable guys would do the job.

yeah, bad thing about him is as you say his ring work isnt up to much, which is a shame, his only matches of any real note were against umaga, during which umaga pretty much carried him through them. And when you have to use someone who isnt the best in ring performer in the world anyway to carry a match that isnt a particularly good thing lol.

As mentioned by Sriram earlier, no doubt Michaels vs Flair will be HBK carrying Flair for the entire match, both of them getting busted open, flair taking a couple of decent bumps, somehow countering sweet chin music into the figure four, michaels reversing it, and using his own submission to make flair tap out.

WWE title match...less predictable....but as long as Cena doesnt win I dont really care, not that I mind Cena at all, I just dont want to see another title reign in which he beats everyone for about 8 months....ideally Orton will win and then feud with someone new, like Hardy etc...

one other thing that bugs me about the commentary team actually (in particuar JR) is the way they always say "what a physical match", well yes, ffs, it is wrestling after all, generally all matches are of a physical nature....

Batista vs Umaga, yawn, hopefully batista will job this, but I doubt it, probably be a back and forth type of match with a few big moves, batista to hit a spear and win. Though possible that Paul birchall will be added to the match judging by the promo on raw the other night.

and one other thing that annoys me, is the way regal has been saying "umaga" wrong for months now!, its UMAGA not UMANGA you fool!

That's probably why they brought it up in the first place. Can't see why Burchill would want to spend his time constantly stagnating in OVW, so he probably wanted a chance at getting on the main roster again.

oh, forgot to say before, King Booker was godly. Yeah, he was!

apparently before giving his pirate gimmick the green light vince had no idea about the obvious influence from the pirates of the caribean films, as soon as he found out about them he axed it instantly, cant say i'm surprised by that either tbh.

I believe Regal saying Yoomanga is actually a work. Apparently he said it wrong the first time and someone pointed it out, but Vince said he should keep doing it anyway.

Not sure about the WM main event myself - given that I'm trying to turn myself back from smark to mark (it's way more fun), and given that I've been drastically underwhelmed by Orton's title reign so far, I'm rooting for either of the faces. Whichever of the two wins, it'll lead to a few months of feuding between the two, which really should be top class. As repetitive as it is to see Triple H and Cena main eventing all the time, they've not had a proper feud yet.

What I'm curious about is what they're gonna do with Michaels once he ends Flair's career - he's obviously not turning heel long-term even though he'll nominally be the heel at 'Mania, so who's he gonna feud with? I was disappointed they wasted Michaels-Kennedy as a two-month filler feud. There was potential there, they had some great matches.

You sound like you don't particularly rate Umaga, Henry - any reason why? Personally I think he's by far the best big man going around at the moment, and I'm slightly disappointed he's been relegated to main-event jobber on RAW. He's nothing special in the ring, but he does power moves brilliantly. Far better than Batista or Mark Henry at any rate.

Lol, didnt realise it could be a work, the fact that it could be makes it quite amusing actually.

How I feel about Umaga has been pretty much summed up by what you've said there really, whilst he isnt the best in ring he's still decent, and as you say, his samoan drop is pretty awesome, its just that on occasion the way he sells a move looks really crap, I remember once when Cena did a shoulder tackle on him, and to go along with the "it takes a lot to knock umaga off his feet" thing, he started to wobble and pretend to lose balance whilst cena went back to shoulder tackle him again, unfortunately cena tripped and delayed the move by about 5 seconds or something, during which Umaga continued to "loose balance" in the ring, and just stood there waving his arms for about ten seconds...looked absolultely terrible. But other than that Umaga is pretty decent on most counts, just not great for mine.

Agree that his booking isnt great, it seems he is either jobbing to someone like HHH/Cena or squashing someone like Brian Kendrick or as we saw on this weeks RAW DH smith.

on another note, regarding the rock inducting his dad and grandfather into the hall of fame, I never realised how much he looks like both of them, you can clearly see both Peter Maivia and Rocky Johnson in his face and hair etc...never noticed it before but there is a major resemblence.

Yeah, it's true, they're really alike. On the subject, I really hope the growing number of people voicing their disappointment with The Rock's attitude to returning to the WWE don't voice their opinions at the Hall of Fame ceremony. It'd be a shame for him not to get the huge ovation he deserves. I think a show of how much the fans still appreciate him is probably the only thing that might be able to persuade him to make some sort of a comeback in any respect.

sledger

Spanish_Vicente
yeah, its a shame that he will only be at the ceremony the night before mania and not the event itself, any comeback from the Rock should be given a good pop imo, the guys great deadset, not a bad word to say about him to be honest. I would be very surprised if he doesnt have at least one or two more matches left in him, whether or not then will be any time soon is another matter, but the guy is just charisma personified, will watch tonight with Jonathan Ross this evening for the sole reason that he is one of the guests lol, IIRC he will be on soccer AM tomorrow as well.
