Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Black
PDV Dome
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
For a second successive match, Alex Crampton and Luke Tyson held their nerve to secure a crucial victory, this time over Cricket Web Black at the tail end of the one-day season. The Blues looked to be struggling chasing a modest 239, but some determined middle order batting gave way to victory in the 49th over.
The pitch at the PDV Dome offered good bounce and pace and Liam Camps removed danger man Ash Chaulk with a sharp delivery early on. James Stedman stood firm with 77 from the top spot, putting on 93 with Alex Blackman in the middle of the innings. When Stedman was trapped in front of his stumps by Dunn, CW Blue fought back with some tight fielding and controlled bowling. CW Black appeared to be losing their way, but Blackman steadied the ship sufficiently to guide it to 238-7. His 93 was absolutely critical, and given the conditions, one of his finest innings.
In their turn CW Blue quickly lost Camps (13) and captain Dinu DeSilva (6) to a fiery spell from Kexing Su. By the time Sean Fuller lost his legstump to Gelman, the Blues were struggling at 76-3 with the required run rate having crossed 5. Stephen Young and Thamba Mamesh settled down to carefully recover lost ground. The latter crept along at snail's pace, very willing to play with a dead bat and wait for loose deliveries. Meanwhile Young was more attacking, turning ones into twos and twos into threes whenever possible. And when set with a half-century to his name, he switched gears and attacked the requirement, which had then shot past 6.
The run rate needed still crept toward 7, but Mamesh chipped down the pitch and smashed Dan Smith back overhead for six, raising his fifty. In the next over Young irreverently slogged pacer Su for six over midwicket, then stepped back and lofted the next ball over the boundary at cover. Gelman was recalled to the attack with CW Black desperate for wickets. He responded clinically by tricking Mamesh with a slower ball, caught at long-on, then bowling Young with a perfectly pitched yorker. CW Blue were left with 39 needed from the last 42 balls and the last recognized batsmen at the crease.
Neither batsman took a risk, and the requirement went past 6 again. Tyson sensed the occasion with 4 overs remaining, first pulling a short ball from Patrick to the fence for four. The next over against Gough he swatted a low full toss over midwicket and into the stands. CW Blue then needed just 6 from the final 12 balls, and they achieved the target comfortably with 7 balls to spare.

AJ Blackman 93* (110), JE Stedman 77 (99), AR Arnold 24 (47)

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Green
Fardin Qayyumi CC
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Bowlers shuddered at the Fardin Qayyumi CC, made to suffer at the hands of batsmen in a thrilling one-day encounter. After the runscoring heroics of the five-day fixture, a large crowd was on hand to see how the pitch would fare in the shorter game. They were hardly disappointed, as they were treated to 613 runs in 100 overs, though Cricket Web Green upstaged the hosts by 23 runs.
The Greens had no hesitation in batting first, given the reputation of the venue and the opposition bowling attack. With such confidence they were off speedily - 11 from the first over. Nick Scott was dropped by Das an over later, on 7, and raced to 29 before he picked out mid-off off the bowling of Thomas. More crucial to the result was Kerr's missed chance, as he dropped Malone when he had 27. It was the second miss off Wright's bowling, but the luckless captain was the most successful bowler of a poor lot.
Thomas bowled with pace and enthusiasm in his first OD outing of the year, but even his early good work was undone by the late hitting of CW Green. Malone led the charge and amassed 132 at a run-a-ball, including 4 huge sixes and 12 fours. Though Ben Read was not far behind, scoring 82 off 82 balls before he was stumped off Weber. Then, in the closing stages of the innings Andrew Garven weighed in with a cameo of 33, taking 20 balls and finishing unbeaten. CW Green finished on 318-7, having scored 81 off the last 10 overs.
Facing up to a huge target, the Colts looked unsettled against the new ball. Kerr twice survived lbw shouts in the first over, and Das was dropped by Cunningham on 15. And in the 8th over CW Green struck twice, first with the run out of Das and then Fitzsimmons was caught by the bowler Rose for 1. The two wickets triggered acceleration from Kerr, and he hit three boundaries in his next six balls. Halsey entered the attack and he took another off him, then missed a sweep shot and was lbw for a promising 30. Law played a frustrating hand of 17, then was out to Corrin as the required rate climbed steadily past 7.
But as Griffen joined Malthus there seemed a new determination in the Colts ranks. They played positively against the spinners and each brought up a half-century during a stand of 125. Griffen finally ran out of luck, missing a slower ball and bowled for 68, and left with the Colts needing 100 runs from the last 58 balls. Malthus and Weber kept hope alive with some inventive strokeplay, but a tight comeback over from Rose left them 57 short with only 4 overs left. Malthus went after Cunningham in the 47th over and hit a flat six over cover to bring up a wonderful maiden ton. But for all his efforts, he could not master Rose at the other end. The experienced bowler led the pack well, and even as Malthus hit Cunningham for two more sixes in the penultimate over, the Colts still required 27 off the last. Rose started with the wicket of McNamara, caught by his namesake, and never looked likely to surrender the runs. Malthus remained unbeaten on 120, but his team short of victory.
Cricket Web Green innings 318-7 (50 overs)
R Malone 132 (132), BS Read 82 (82), AJ Garven 33* (20)
KS Wright 3-61 (10)
Cricket Web Colts innings 295-8 (50 overs)
JB Malthus 120* (118), J Griffen 68 (65), WA Kerr 30 (35)
XPA Rose 2-36 (10)
Cricket Web Green won by 23 runs.
Man of the Match: XPA Rose (Green)

Masters XI v Cricket Web Red
Casston Reserve
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Matt Luff eased concerns of another Cricket Web Red slump, spearheading a 10-wicket win over the Masters XI at the Casston Reserve. Luff cast away memories of his struggles this season, returning to his best form with 122 not out on a slow pitch. He and Jamee Gray shared an unbeaten stand of 218 to overhaul the Masters total with the better part of 10 overs spare.
With the ball the Reds exercised discipline and control and limited their hosts to 217-8. Sean Bennett was the pick of the pack, taking 2 for 30 from his 8 overs, but everyone contributed in some way. For a time Brian Lara (51) and Dale Benkenstein threatened in partnership of 110, but once CW Red broke through, they had few problems in controlling the damage. Lance Klusener chipped in with a positive 46, but could get his team no further than a modest total in the circumstances.
The Reds found things much easier when they went to the crease. The ball seemed to come onto the bat comfortably and both openers were allowed to ease into stride. Initially Gray looked the better of the pair, but Luff soon passed him and went on to outscore his senior partner by almost 50 runs in the partnership. And in the end some daring shots against Nixon McLean hastened the end.
