Australia's tour to Pakistan unlikely

haroon510

International 12th Man
Best PAK XI: (probably)

Salman Butt
Khurram Manzoor/Nasr Jamshed
Younis Khan
Mohammad Yousuf
Misbah-ul-Haq
Shoaib Malik
Kamran Akmal/Sarfraz Ahmed
Shoaib Akhtar
Umar Gul
Mohammad Asif
Danish Kanerian

Sohail Khan, Sohail Tanvr and Yasir Arafat in reserves for the three injury/controversey loving paceman.
i would drop Kaneria and add afridi instead..

afridi has been in outstanding form with the ball lately.. he had a good 2007 with ball and his bating would also help pak considering that Kaneria has been in bad forms in recent times..
lets hope they keep sohail tanvir away from test matches.. and asif, gul and shoaib are 100% fit..

Is it my imagination or wasn't there an "official" tour thread for this? I can't seem to find it now...

So pleased with this - I've been really looking forward to this tour and the thought that it wouldn't go ahead was very disappointing. I personally couldn't give a toss about the ODIs or the Abominable Slogfest in this instance but I think we have the makings of a fantastic Test series and I hope we still play all three. The cynic in me says that won't happen - they'll shorten the Test series to fit in as many of the little money-spinners as they can.

I'm not going to hold a particular grudge against any player who doesn't tour - I personally don't think Pakistan is any more unsafe than about 150 other countries (and for a well-protected cricket tour it's probably safer than many) but they're obviously acting on the information they're receiving and they have wives/kids/families to think about. I'd rather we sent a full strength team and had a full, competitive series, but if we can't do that then the fact that tour is going ahead in any form is something to be thankful for. :)

Scared of Asif, obviously. 8-) He shouldn't worry, the Pakistan slip-fielders' notoriety is best with their bowlers. 8-)
Pakistani slip fielding is predominately ‘good‘, Younis Khan is an excellent slip catcher - with the only problem being the guy who wears the gloves. But that should be all pretty redundant for Asif, for he will be taking out the right handers off stump anyhow. :)

Geez, with Shoaib coming in at no.8 that tail looks longer then an English tail of the 1990s.
Shoaib can bat but and has shown he was no mug with the willow back in 05 when he played some good knocks for the team but you sort of the get the impression seeing him bat recently that he couldn't give a flying ****.

Kaneria has also improved leaps and bounds recently, still bats like a clown for the majority of the time but he has at least attempted to develop a defensive technique.

Haha I was just about to say, Asif doesn't need slips fieldsman.

A shame the dickhead wasn't touring though, would have loved to see Asif send his off-stump cartweheeling into Akmal's face. If for no other reason than to force Akmal to have to get some dental work done on his awkward looking teeth.

ITSTL, Asif's best bowling when I've been watching has been outswing\seam-away\legcutter stuff. Obviously he can bowl indippers too, just I've never seen it prove as effective as his away movement.

Haha...then you should watch him more he is good with the away going ball but it's his offcutter which gets him his best wickets.

You reckon these openers are the real deal? or are they likely to be like all the rest (Wasim, Nazir, Umar, Hammed, Farhat, Butt, Elahi) where they have the skill but are just not consistent enough to be successfull on the international stage.?

Whats your say also on the positions of Kamal, Mushy & the possibility of Malik opening again though?

I can't see any reason why Asim Kamal or Mushtaq Ahmed would get anywhere near Pakistan's Test side again.

The Champions Trophy this year is in Pakistan in September, will be interesting to see if CA cancel this tour, what they'll do there only a couple of months later.

And, perhaps more worryingly, what everyone else might do.

Blimey, Champions Trophy again? These things come around so quickly...

Yeah i remember this guy Kamal, IMO he was pretty decent test batsman and was pretty consistent too, what happened to him, why was he dropped??

He was dropped several times, almost all completely unfairly. Sadly, his form of the last 3(?) seasons hasn't been remotely good, so I daresay his chances are now gone.
