Indian Premier League

International Coach
Of course, Lee went for a pretty high price, but Lee's pretty much an honorary Indian.
And........... let's not forget he has been brought by a franchise that his supposed ex-flame owns, i really don't see any (business) sense in paying Lee that much money when like the other Australian players he could very well be not avaliable for most part of this tournament.

Haha:

Hussey, who clubbed the second-fastest one-day century in Australian cricket on Wednesday -- a 60-ball innings against New South Wales at the SCG - said he initially thought the price was a joke.

"It was indescribable," he said yesterday.

"I got told and then sat and said 'Are you taking the mickey out of me?' They said it was genuine . . . it's just remarkable. It's very flattering."

Kolkata rated Hussey worth $300,000 more than Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who it also picked up, and $250,000 higher than leg-spin legend Shane Warne.

But Hussey said the best part was a text message from older brother Mike, an established Test star for Australia, who will be paid $381,000 to be part of the IPL.

"He actually sent me a text message this morning and said, 'I can't believe you're worth double what I am,' " Hussey laughed.

While he marvelled at his own good fortune, Hussey lamented the fact his Victorian teammate Brad Hodge, who has more international experience, was overlooked.

"I just don't understand it," Hussey said from Hobart, where he is preparing for tomorrow's Ford Ranger Cup final against Tasmania.

With 6 other Non-Indians in the squad if, like you suggest, the money is only paid when playing then the 4 foreigner rule means a lot of inactivity and absolutely no security.
The money is paid to them If they are available ,whethet they play or not.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but is the salary for the whole 3 years or on a yearly basis? Meaning is Symonds getting paid million plus a year, or spread out over 3 years?

Per year, guaranteed for three years. So he is guaranteed 4million dollars over three years if he is available for all the games.

I remember reading that the players are paid 25% of the agreed price in the event that they do not play or they play less than 4 matches.

I think the next interesting piece in all this would be when the team management structure is announced. Who is going to be the General Manager? The coach? Would current International coaches be allowed to take part in IPL?

Well, Tom Moody, John Buchanan have all accepted coaching positions.

Massive premium for availability but hardly any of his biggest fans would rate him that far above Hodge

Guess the latter paid for his poor odi series last year but that's still crazy

Well I'm seriously behind on the news! Incidentally, what were their salaries? Are the high profile coaches expected to earn a lot? Specially if there's a bidding war for them...
Got to be the cushiest job in the world

Tactic 1 - slog

Fall back position - slog

David Hussey seems to believe that Hodge will be signed up in the second round of bidding, whenever that is…

Justin Langer won't be playing in the IPL this year, even though he was bought at auction, because he wants to honour his contract with Somerset. I doubt there are many other players in this day & age who would turn down that amount of money to honour a contract they'd already signed. I respect him greatly for that. Bring on Divison 1, I say!!!!
