New Zealand arrive in CWLand
Led by Daniel Vettori, New Zealand touched down in Nixontown this morning. It is the first series that the team will play without the retired Stephen Fleming, and it will be an uphill struggle against a much-improved Cricket Web XI.
In the Test squad there is a mixture of experience and youth, including two uncapped players. Under-19 phenom Tim Southee has played a Twenty20 game for New Zealand, but may get his first taste of Test cricket in CWLand. With him is shock selection Brandon Hiini, who poses a threat with both the bat and his medium-fast bowling. Ian O'Brien has been overlooked.
Test squad:
DL Vettori (c), BB McCullum (wk), MD Bell, MS Sinclair, CD Cumming, JD Ryder, JM How, LRPL Taylor, PG Fulton, JDP Oram, KD Mills, CS Martin, BC Hiini, TG Southee.
The one-day international squad features two changes and an additional player. Bell, Hiini and Southee make way for Daniel Flyn, Paul Hitchcock, Michal Mason and Rob Nicol. Jeetan Patel has been excluded. The squad contains one specialist spin option and the part-time offspin of Nicol. In the 15-man party New Zealand have opted for 5 seam options.
