NBA 07-08 season thread

I think it was only one time when spurs were the best team in the NBA when they won the title. Rest of the time they were the second best or third best team. They are just too strong and just have too many players in the right position, delivering just enough when needed. I hate to say it, but they will be winners again.

Winning the West is going to be brutal this season. They have about 10 teams who would be challengers in the East. Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, Hornets, Suns, Nuggets, Warriors, Jazz , Rockets and Blazers.

The team that has to go through that lot will be beaten up physically and mentally. Could be ripe pickings for the Pistons or Boston.. Hope not though, anyone but the Celtics for me. Hopefully the Nuggs but maybe I'm just dreaming.

Shaq off to Phoenix for Shawn Marion and Marcus banks.

I know Marion wanted out but what are Phoenix thinking. Hope Kerr knows what he is doing

To busy crying about Manu Ginobli's 8 treys to sink the cavs. Was such a ridiculously good 4th quarter from him and as much as I love Manu, that hurt :(

Was good to see Larry Hughes sinking some in the last 2 games though... fingers crossed he can keep it up.

yeah ginobli has been carrying them in parker's absence, more so than even duncan, once they get parker back, they should be set for their usual post-all-star run...the cavs are playing pretty decently though...in a comparatively weak east, that should be enough for 4th or 5th place...the west is really deep this time, the no: 9 team has 30 wins...

Read an article this week about how the Cavs haven't made any trades for someone to help LeBron, and how they don't have anyone atm who other people would want. It also went on to say that next year could be the year they get someone though, as they have quite a number of players coming off contract, or available to trade (Gooden, Newble, D Brown, S Brown, Varejao, Pav).

So it got me thinking, what sort of player would the Cavs want? Do they need a ball handling point guard who racks up 13-15 points & 8-9 assists per game, or do they need another reliable point scoring option (I wouldn't yet call any of Hughes, Z, Gooden, Gibson or Pav, reliable)?

The other problem would be, who is available, or who would want to move to the Cavs? I had a bit of a joke with a mate at work (Lakers fan, so not fair with the Gasol trade, I love Gasol) that Baron Davis would be Ideal, as he's capable of providing both, but then, it would take a massive trade to get Davis.

For those of you who know more about the NBA than myself, I was wondering who you think would be the best foil for LeBron, or who would be the best foil the Cavs are able to get?

Watched a bit of the Rookie v Sophomore game, the period I watched was as fast paced as anything I've ever seen. And if it wasn't for other people wanting the t.v. it would have been good to watch the rest of the match.

Your expirings are going to be worth gold. From what I've read it'll be something like 40m to come off your books after next season. How well you draft will also impact greatly on your team needs.

As for who you could get it really depends on who's struggling at the time. PLayers rarely want to leave playoff quality teams so if you want to add a superstar it'd probably be a guy who's carrying a struggling team which wants to rebuild. Names like Mike Miller, Elton Brand, Ron Artest spring to mind.

Danny Ferry (your GM) and your Front Office still have to play it very smart though. A lot of Cavs fans have accused them of resting on their laurels and relying too heavily on LBJ, next year's when they really have to earn their salaries. Big window of opportunity for you guys.

Watched most of the All-star stuff today. Really liked the Skills challenge and the 3-point shoot-out.

Records were broken and set. Williams broke the Skills Challenge record, doing the course in 25 seconds and Kapono (I think that's his name) equalled the 3-point record of 25 points.

Should be a good All-Star game tomorrow.

Really cut about Kobe's injury. Pretty much all of the West voting for guards was geared to seein Kobe and A.I in the same lineup.

First really good dunk contest in ages. The "Superman" and "Birthday Cake" dunks were sick.

Who won it? I missed it.

Dwight Howard. Some seriously new dunks came out this year. I'm sure they'll show the replays in tommorow's game.

They say soccer is the most skillful game in the world. Bull****! Has to be basketball. The skills on display in the All-Star game were out of this world. It is the first time I have seen most of those players play. LeBron was something else and a deserved MVP. Iverson had some magic and for a big man Boozer covers the court well. For one of the older players in the league Jason Kidd showed some amazing athletisism - wonderful passer. Great spectacle. Loved it!

Mike Bibby has been traded to Atlanta and massive talk over the whole weekend that Kidd is off to the Mavs.

Yeah I was reading an article last week that pretty much said the same thing. The Cavs haven't been making any trades, and it's not because Ferry doesn't want to, it's because he can't. Gooden, Varejao & Pavlovic will probably be the 3 players most likely to attract interest from other clubs so It will be interesting to see who they can get in return.
