*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

Dead set worst idea since Greedo shooting first.

So as I understand it, the top 5 teams will seeded so as not to play each other, meaning that the teams trying desperately to stave off relegation have a bigger chance of playing one of them - can you just imagine it, the FA calls up Keano: "Sorry old chap, we know you've gotten Sunderland two points clear of the relegation zone but you've got one more game to play. It's in Hong Kong. Against United." Keano: "**** you ****ing **** ***** **** **** ***** ***** and your mother too you English ****."

Which would probably be taking it well by Keano's standards.

How are they going to market the whole scheme when the glamour clubs aren't involved? OK so United in New York, Liverpool in Sydney, Chelsea in Bangkok, Arsenal in Dubai would draw big crowds. But when Wigan draw Birmingham where do they play it? And what sort of crowds would they expect them to pull in?

Still, as long as Arsenal don't get to play in France. Would be unfair giving them another home game.

Heh this sort of money grabbing bollocks doesn't surprise me at all. This is what top flight football is - business. Big business stinks.

The only real football is international football. Franchise sport is soulless and just purely there as entertainment as far as I'm concerned.

Pfft, players don't care, I don't care.

As for this proposal, it is of course bollocks of the highest order as many have pointed out, liked the Mirror's (IIRC) coverage of it this morning tbh - "For sale - our national game".

In other news, another essay from Mr McShane I see, though in all fairness I agree that Brown isn't international standard, decent back up at United is all he is, though he would start at most other Premiership teams obviously.

Not saying he's international standard, he isn't good enough to make a top international team regularly, but more hitting out at the idea that Capello is now sure he isn't because aussie assumes he didn't play well on Wednesday. He in fact played quite decently. Not outstanding though, but pretty sure he'll be in the next England squad.

tbh i've always thought wes brown was pretty decent, but he certainly didnt have a very good game the other night, perhaps one of mcshanes better points as of late....

but agree with halsey, international football simply is not interesting these days, which is a shame tbh, really enjoyed watching england up until about 2003, just seemed to have lost meaning since then.

Biggest problem i find is that you go into an England match with the attitude that they'll win, so you just end up waiting for the goal that'll win it. Group stages at the last WC were so dire to watch, mis-firing but scraping together wins eventually against mighty T&T. Compare that with Australia at the WC, all 3 results were possible going into each match which made it much more entertaining than basically just waiting for the goals to win it.

Scots Prem doesn't have teams playing each other an equal amount of times as i understand it.
Not on such a skewed basis. Scots Prem splits after three games against each opponent. Then the final games of the season are played against the sides in your half - so the top six play one another and the bottom six play one another.

The teams cannot hence finish in an alternate half to their position after 33 games. It is theoretically possible for the team finishig last to have more points that the team finishing sixth, and common for seventh to finish ahead of sixth - in 2006, Inverness' seventh place ended with more points than fourth-placed Hibs.

Three games means an unequal number of home and away games, which isn't very good in itself, don't like the way the Scottish Prem works at all, should have just left it with 10 sides and play each other four times.

Has to be Rooney/Crouch or Heskey/Owen up front. If you chop and change those combinations it doesn't seem to work.
Well in way yea, but how often has Rooney/Heskey played together though?. From my memory i don't think they have as yet although they may have been in similar squads.

Didn't see the game yet you're sure Brown played crap. Itstl.
Didn't have to see Brown play to know he isn't international quality. Saw highlights on Sky though where i saw this (pay close attention to the intial part of these highlights), typical Brown blunder that he has done very frequently over the past few years for England either as right-back or centrally.

Fact is he is good for United in the premiership but he is crap for England simple. Yea he has looked as good as Johnson, Young & Onhua this season but he is tried, tested & failed and with Neville position unknown i rather see those guys in Johnson or Onhua given a go instead of Brown.

Yo thats Mr.Benjamin for you Mofo, and excuse me for showing interest in the national team even in time of stress unlike people like you who maintain the idea that the players don't care.

hmm, race hate and threatening behaviour, childish and uneccesary, but then its probably natural for someone of your intellect to resort to such methods.

Cut out the racist crap aussie and threating to beat people up over the net comes across as lame, as a rule. Sledger, don't bait/flame other members either, stuff like 'makes these sorts of stupid remarks regulary tbh', isn't acceptable.
