although given both teams will get the same benefit, its not really a gain for either side anyway.
Sri Lanka are playing in the tournament as well, though, so it'd theoretically prepare Australia and India for Sri Lanka by getting them out of "test mode".

Yeah, I know, but aren't SL coming off a ODI series themselves? (can't recall tbh)
Nah, their last cricket was the Tests against England IIRC. Regardless of which, getting yourselves into "one day mode" would be valuable to you whether your team was in said mode or not.

I don't know why I'm arguing this, as I'd much rather see the ODIs straight away, but there you go. :p

I think we're agreeing that its the one virtue of having this match! :) Y'know the Bhajji Racist Storm thread does seem to be calming down - it probably is time to reignite the ODI-vs-20/20 shooting match :p

I'm hoping Dhoni comes a bit out of his shell and gets his timing right in this game. For India to have any chance in this series, he's going to have to be at his quick scoring best.

Yeah, he's been quiet this test series for sure. He's one guy I was looking forward to seeing at his hard-hitting best. I think it was the ODI series in India or maybe the 20/20 WC where he hit a straight drive so hard it hit the non-striker (Sreesanth maybe) before he'd even blinked. Phenomenal power.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
The thing that Sri Lanka is missing the most compared to other teams is late-over hitting. Who is the power striker? Aussie have Symonds, India have Yuvrag and Dhoni. Who will step up for Sri Lanka?
Kapugedera did a fairly good job of late order hitting last time he played in the Tri Series.

Yeah, some idiots are never dropped.

Mubarak and Tharanga are examples.

in tests both Vandort and Paranavithana >>> Tharanga. Paranavithana has a great technique.

in ODIs Udawatta is better than him. Get Sanga to open in ODIs and build innigs (he and Tharanga both have similar SRs) at least Sanga will score big.
Tharanga has some talent atleast but Mubarak is hopeless. Paranavithana looks good too. Havent seen Udawatta play. how are his stats?

As in the other thread, I'd like to play selector for the team at Brisbane. I think India will do much better over there. Playing five bowlers is a must up in Brisbane and with Pathan batting well I think India should feel confident in doing that. Also, I don't really rate Praveen Kumar that highly, but I'd like to give him an opportunity to see what he can prove at the international level.

1. Sehwag
2. Tendulkar
3. Gambhir
4. Uthappa
5. Raina/Sharma
6. Dhoni
7. Pathan
8. Praveen Kumar
9. Harbhajan
10. Sreesanth
11. Ishant Sharma

Stats are pretty poor low 30s average, but he's got more talent then Tharanga and his technique is ok. Seems the selectors are waiting for a big season or a couple big games like they did with Tharanga and Kapu though. Paranavithana would be a brillant Test option, but too slow for ODs.

I think India need to be a little realistic with the side they've picked. Expecting brilliant instantaneous results from them would be too much from a young squad but this series will give them some idea of which players can cut it and which can't at intl ODI level.

Wouldn't play Gambhir even if my life depended upon it. Personally i think he is way too overated. Uthappa to come in at 3 while both Raina and Sharma play there. With Parveen Kumar i aint entirely sure of him as of yet, but looks good.

India for me in the opening match-

1)Sehwag
2)Tendulkar
3)Uthappa
4)Tiwary
5)Dhoni
6)Raina
7)Pathan
8)Kumar/R.Sharma(Depending on pitch)
9)Harbhajan
10)I.Sharma/Patel
11)Sreeshanth

Important points-
1)What i am worried about is with yuvraj injured ,they will ask sachin to slot in middle order. To be honest sachin is wasted in that position and should be used as a opener.

2)If the pitch is not flat, then with the current lack of practice and the form of batsmen ,we should be playing with 4 bowlers until the batsmen strike form.

3)Sachin should play his normal game as he did over the last year opening with sourav and not change his game opening with sehwag.
