***Official*** India in Australia

If something drastic or exceptional happens.

Otherwise a draw looks more than likely.

Nice to see Punter in the runs though, looks set for a good hundred tomorrow, and perhaps a blitzkrieg by Gilly in the afternoon session to round things off nicely. Wonder if Punter will declare a few runs short of India?

Can someone explain to me the sense in Harbhajan's line in the opening hour or so of play ? He was bowling very wide outside Haydens off stump, yes there was invariable bounce and at times sharp turn, but Hayden never had to play a stroke at any of them. He was troubling Dhoni much more than Hayden.

I appreciate that sides sometimes play on Haydens' perceived ego and that he will back himself to take on any line of attack, but Australia are in no hurry, they are not the ones that need to win. Hayden played it perfectly, just waited for his length to err and cut past backward point. A confusing tactic accompanied by a confusing field.

No - cant explain that. Bhajji has only had an ok series apart from getting Ponting out. He doesnt seem to have a consistent idea of how to bowl here...and hasnt been consistent in the sort of stock ball he wants to bowl.

Not a chance. If we make it to a declaration, it'll be 100+ ahead or something. He wouldn't give them a chance to win the game and draw the series by declaring a few runs short.

And why should he offer India any chance. This has been a hard fought series and will be a feather in their cap to complete a victory against a strong Indian side who have played some very good cricket and helped make it a competitive series (something England sadly never did!!).

a 100 run lead would be brilliant.. would shut india out of the match but give Australia a good chance of winning actually (as India have to make 200 you would think for it to be a draw atleast)

Not losing the game is Australia's main objective. But it is in there to nature to be positive and go for the victory, however, in this game they can afford to be a touch more conservative and not chase the game.

The onus is definitely on India to push for a win, since they are the ones behind in the series. However, I am loving the fact that Australia might be happy with a draw on their home soil.

If 450 overs are bowled in a Test, there is no reason why a Test should ever be a draw, except in very rare circumstances where one of the sides plays a great match-saving innings. I really hope this match brings a result one way or another.

My money is on a drawn for this match. I know people are pointing out similarities to the result last year but two things happened which I think are unlikely this year;

1) Extraordinary collapse by England on day 5
2) Australia going at 5-per-over same day to win

They made it look easy but it was a tough ask scoring at that rate. Will be very surprised if a result happens.

No Warne also is likely to make a repeat unlikely.

Continuing on yesterday about Bhajji I still think he doesnt appear to have a grip on what is the best way for him to bowl here. At home he can bowl the flatter stuff with the doosra on a slow turner and be a striker and get 5 for 80 in 30 overs. He looked like he was trying to do that yesterday where bowling like that against this line up playing cautiously gets you 0 or 1 for 80 in 30 overs. Its not in his nature to toss the ball up as a stock ball and trying to mix things up (which all the left handers didnt help) jsut led him to being just more inconsistent.

The number of constant chats with Kumble also suggested he didnt have much idea.

If he gets a decent bowl in the second dig it may suit him a bit better.

Bowling offies is hard work here in the first innings...if people are not going to donate you their wicket. He didnt look to want to do that work yesterday....I'm not sure he's a great team bowler

In fairness, this is his first tour where he's played every match (played only one match last time). It took Warnie three full tours to figure out how to bowl in India and even then, he didn't dominate.

Loved the opening credits and the lyrics that went along with a collection of images about Gilchrist "There goes my hero"... :(
