Whoa. Chill out fellas. There's only a couple of mistakes I see with the squad chosen for the ODI's, it should have been Kaif for Sehwag and Badrinath for Gambhir (arguable.)

Aside from that I'm happy with the squad and it gives us a chance to experiment with the kids and see how life's like without the superstars (Dravid, Laxman & Ganguly.) Who knows it might be a lot greener. I don't really care if we get pasted in the ODI's - the only two tournaments that are worth having your 11 BEST players on the park are the CT and the WC. Most of the rest are money-making exercises/tour add-ons which provide the odd thrill here and there.

The batting lineup has a fresh look to it and the players won't have the pressure of being the best batsman in the world. Happy with the squad and hope BCCI stick with it even if the results don't show because most of these guys will form the nucleus for our CT and WC squads whenever they are.

If Australia have the depth to employ a 'rotation' policy and we have talented youngsters coming up (Raina, Sharmas, Praveen etc.) Why can't we employ a youth policy ??

My only concern is the BCCI stick with the kids - can't have them tugging Dravid's and Laxman's ankles at the end.
No way would i have kaif and badrinath in the ODI team. They are restricted batsmen and on flat tracks are a liability.I would have liked Tiwary and possibly patel picked.

Just wondering why people are suggesting Gambhir hasn't earnt his selection in the squad.

I'm not talking XI, but to suggest Gambhir doesn't deserve a place in India's ODI squad is a bit inaccurate IMO.
If you ignore games against minnow nations (Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland), he averages just 22.46 in ODIs. I know that statistics are not everything, but I'd like to see someone defend that.

SL seletors as usual have shown that they are a bunch of jokers. 5 pacemen and out of that 6 are medium pacers! Shocking! Why on earth that much of similarity in pace? And out of them only two gnuine swing bowlers, Vaas can swing but too slow to cause problems, and Amerasinghe, quick, but terribly inexperianced.

What SL have to do is what opposition likes least. Kumble have shown the way by stacking the side with spinners and swing bowlers and he was able to run through the Aussie batting line up.

SL will be solely missing Thilan Thushara, quick bowler who can approach 140k with quite ease, and hit the pitch hard type of a bowler. I know there are many of them in international cricket, but left arm variety of is exceedingly rare except Mitchell Johnson currently.

Indian FTBs (Flat Track Bullies, namely Sehwag, Gambhir and Uthappa) will murder the SL medium pacers. They'll not be liking the idea of some balls going past their noses with a left arm angle from Thbilan Thushara. The problem of lack of a quick bowler further worsens as Malinga's natural; line is cannon fodder for Indian batsman. Malinga is very good bowling wicket to wicket, but wristy Indian batsman will keep hitting him on the leg side forever with his line.

Now SL have to play three spinners against Aussies. Murali and Jayasuriya will be the first two, and Dilruwan Perera should be the third. Murali have to bowl in the power plays. I'd prefer 4/60 from Murali over 1/35 off 10 overs. Only way to stop Aussies is to take wickets.

I expect SL to have huge problems with their bowling. They have the worst batting line up out of three sides and potentially has the best bowling line up. But slectors have ****ed it up once more.

He bowled with an injury in Australia. That was the reason for his low pace (130ish there). He's usually 10k quicker than what he bowled in Australia. That extra 10k would have made a big difference. He's erratic against lefties, and that's a known problem. But against right hangers, when he gets it right, it's scary.

He dismissed Ponting cheaply I think..in the second match not sure (maybe you can confirm this), but he looked sluggish against us.

It still haunts me to this day that Sachin's last World Cup innings will read:

SR Tendulkar b Fernando 0 (5)

Hate Fernando :(

Agree with most of this, but really there only a handful of bowlers who actually bowl at 135+ km/h. In the past the selectors have thrown those guys in the deep end when they have gone to Australia and South Africa and it hasn't always worked. Occasionally you get the odd guy who turns out to be really good like Malinga or Nissanka. But more often then not they find themselves out of their depth.

Thursha should have been selected on current form. But considering before this season his had like 4 poor seasons in row after making the National Squad. You can understand why the selectors went for guys who done better over the last couple season.

Overall there is one too many seamers, but Bandara wouldn't have played any games. Even at home we never play two spinners and until Jayasuriya retires I doubt we will play a 2nd spinner often. Bandara turned into a net bowler and will benefit a lot more playing domestic cricket then sitting on the bench in Australia again.

Lokuarachchi also is just coming back from injury and needs match fitness. Again something he wont gain sitting on the bench in Australia. Herath is the only other front line options, but has never been dominate in ODs for Sri Lanka A. Regular gets over looked for ODs matches for extra seamer, even for Sri Lanka A.
