SL seletors as usual have shown that they are a bunch of jokers. 5 pacemen and out of that 6 are medium pacers! Shocking! Why on earth that much of similarity in pace? And out of them only two gnuine swing bowlers, Vaas can swing but too slow to cause problems, and Amerasinghe, quick, but terribly inexperianced.
What SL have to do is what opposition likes least. Kumble have shown the way by stacking the side with spinners and swing bowlers and he was able to run through the Aussie batting line up.
SL will be solely missing Thilan Thushara, quick bowler who can approach 140k with quite ease, and hit the pitch hard type of a bowler. I know there are many of them in international cricket, but left arm variety of is exceedingly rare except Mitchell Johnson currently.
Indian FTBs (Flat Track Bullies, namely Sehwag, Gambhir and Uthappa) will murder the SL medium pacers. They'll not be liking the idea of some balls going past their noses with a left arm angle from Thbilan Thushara. The problem of lack of a quick bowler further worsens as Malinga's natural; line is cannon fodder for Indian batsman. Malinga is very good bowling wicket to wicket, but wristy Indian batsman will keep hitting him on the leg side forever with his line.
Now SL have to play three spinners against Aussies. Murali and Jayasuriya will be the first two, and Dilruwan Perera should be the third. Murali have to bowl in the power plays. I'd prefer 4/60 from Murali over 1/35 off 10 overs. Only way to stop Aussies is to take wickets.
I expect SL to have huge problems with their bowling. They have the worst batting line up out of three sides and potentially has the best bowling line up. But slectors have ****ed it up once more.
