Sarwan not going to be in South Africa. Apparently not fit enough. He probably can play but I think it's for the best that he stays. Builds up the pool depending on how Chattergoon does. Ryan should have a look in but he got banned or something like that. That's why Collymore is Barbados captain. Anyway cool to know I know someone who currently plays FC cricket, Simon Jackson.
Haha, just casually name-drop why don't you? ;)

Sarwan's current injury, is it the same one he sustained on the tour to England? His shoulder wasn't it? Do you know why Ryan Hinds was banned?

Ryan offers a semi-proper spin option as well. It's criminal he hasn't played more test cricket, really, or at least been a handy squad member.
And you would think that being able to bowl left-arm orthodox spin to a reasonable level would aid his claim for a Test spot, wouldn't you? Unfortunately it appears this isn't the case. Sarwan, Samuels and Gayle have all been used as part-timers, and from what I gather Hinds is a more accomplished bowler than any of them in FC cricket. 'Course, in the ideal West Indies XI, they'd have Dave Mohammed as the specialist spinner, so back-up options wouldn't be as important.

No AFAIK it's his ankle that's a bit of a problem now. Both HInds were banned incidentally. Wavell said something to an umpire in club cricket and consequently missed the KFC Cup after being banned by the Jamaica Cricket Association. Ryan, can't remember but I think it's a similar offence. Think he was banned by the WICB.

In 2006-07, he took 24 wickets @ 20.9. He hasn't bowled a lot in 2007-08 but his overall first class record with the ball (141 wickets @ 27.29) suggests he'd still make his first class side if he was a genuine number eleven batsman. As has been said, he's been one of the most prolific run-scorers in recent seasons as well.

I haven't heard anything about his ban but I'll take Roseboy's word for it.. however, that doesn't excuse his non-selection on tours prior to his ban, really.

Hmm, perplexing really. Yet another case of a fine domestic player being ignored by the international selectors.

Now that I think about it, not sure Ryan HInds was banned. He either was banned or the umpire failed to submit the report in time and he was let off. Either way I'm sure there was something about the umpire's report of the incident and the time it was submitted.

I've seen him bat and bowl a few times as well - there's nothing about his technique in either department that suggests he wouldn't be able to be a competant #5/#6 batsman and a useful fifth or sixth bowling option. I recall an innings he played for 80 odd against England at home quite vividly and he looked very organised and competant at the crease. His test record, admittedly, is not great, but that can be said for many of the West Indian batsmen who ahve worse techniques and less impressive and/or consistent first class turnouts.

Heard Andy Roberts' reason for Rawl Lewis' inclusion and why Dave Mohammed only gets selected for one Test then dropped. Captaincy and tour management. His argument is that why send a young spinner to South Africa who'll most likely not get a game instead of sending someone who adds something with the bat and it won't matter if they play or not in the larger scheme. Re: Mohammed, he gets bowled at the wrong times in the match when the batsmen are settled and attacking, then when he gets carted it's held against him.

Parchment out.

Depends on if any opener does well in FC. Xavier Marshall the best performer so far.
Devon Smith cooling his heels in South Africa really doesn't help. Not given a go in the eleven due to poor form, but prevented from playing first class cricket as well. Obviously there isn't a lot that can be a done about that if he was still regarded as the best option to be on tour, but it certainly doesn't help matters now.

Parchment looked pretty awful to me despite getting a start in the second innings; I'd be more inclined to drop him than Ganga anyway. Even if he doesn't feature in the eleven, I'd expect Ganga to be in the squad.

Home series so party of 12. Agreed about Smith. Parchment, haven't seen much of him. Didn't see him bat in the first innings and only saw him this morning. Didn't look too bad.
