If you could play at four grounds only?

Talking of Cricket Grounds ....the likes of Murali and Sanga , Mahela etc or guys like Sanath , Aravinda, Arjuna etc...never got to play in a Test Match at the MCG or the SCG... I wonder whether by 2025 or 2030 a Sri Lankan Test cricketer would be able to say they played in a Test at these 2 grounds....

I think of the poor Bangladeshis as well now who have been reduced to Venues like University Oval in Dunedin even in NZ ....will they get ever get to play at the SCG or MCG ...

Guys like Murali and Sanga must have regrets that in their careers they will never have played a Test at these Venues...

Both played for the World XI (well Kumar only in the ODI game) at those venues, and have played ODIs for SL there (SCG/MCG) as well, so that's something at least.

I am sure...because its not something they have control over....it must be a disappointment though....that you cannot play a Test in the Best Venues or Prime Venues in certain countries...a sort of second class treatment despite playing at the highest Level and competing with the best ....I wonder how many wickets Murali would have got had he played at these Venues ....unfortunately he will never know....

The same with the Bangladeshis now....I mean they will never be given a chance to play at the MCG or SCG at this rate...

I wonder what venues are gonna be for the BD tours of Australia come July and August and The India tour which should happen sometime after that in October Edan Gardens would be a dream i know ... but I think we're going to have a chance to play another Test at Lords again when we tour England again.

WTF do you mean "reduced to venues like the University Oval in Dunedin"?. It's a brand-new cricket-specific venue - it's not like history oozes out of the terribly-shaped Eden Park, or the boring-as-bat**** Jade Stadium/AMI Stadium/Lancaster Park.

Ok...so he (Murali) played 1 Test at MCG 12 years ago and got called for throwing ...(looks like the only time SL ever played a Test at the MCG)...never played at SCG in a Test ever (at least for Sri Lanka) ....

Anyway I guess this is how I imagine the conversation between Murali and his Grandchildren will go in 30 years time ....

How many wickets did you take ? 800 odd

How long did you play Test Cricket ? 17 years (give or take 1 more or less)

How many times did you play the Sydney Cricket ground in a Test ? none

How many times did you play at the MCG ? once in 17 years....

Why not more ? ........Silence......

Uhm, how about Muralitharan has only toured Australia twice? It's not some kind of racist conspiracy JASON, far from it. Sri Lanka have only toured Australia five times, playing 10 Tests. They've played twice at the WACA, Gabba and Bellerive Oval, once at the MCG, Adelaide Oval, Cairns and Darwin. In 2004/2005 they played in Cairns and Darwin because they toured during July, when the weather isn't really suitable for Test cricket further down Australia.

No, the University Oval has been under improvements and reconstruction for a few years now, with the idea being that Dunedin will again have a Test standard cricket venue, since Carisbrook is no longer suitable. It has nothing to do with Bangladesh.

Why were they even playing at that time of the year ? They could've played at a suitable time of the year at the other Venues in Summer like other Test Teams.... I mean why did SL and Bangladesh play at these Venues at these times of the year....that's pretty shoddy if you ask me...

A test venue has to be new sometime. FFS. And if I was the Bangladeshis, I'd be happier I was playing there than at AMI Stadium, which would be empty. The atmosphere at Uni Oval was excellent from what I heard.

And it's not a ****ing trial of the venue.

And for the record, Mr "I Find Myself Terribly Humorous", there is no such ground as Junction Oval in Oamaru - even though I know you were trying to be clever and sarcastic. But go right ahead and make yourself look as stupid as possible if you like.

Because they had four Tests to play in India, two at home against New Zealand, three at home against Pakistan and three in New Zealand. Not to mention several ODI series too. They had to squeeze Sri Lanka in somehow, and that was the only choice that they had. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh don't draw the big crowds that other Test nations do, so it wasn't as risky having the Tests further up the country than it would be for England or India. Face it, if Sri Lanka played at the MCG and SCG they would've had rain, which you would have complained about, questioning why they were playing in a season not suitable for cricket. If they never toured because of the seasonal issues you would have complained too, so it's a lose-lose situation.

Thats where you are wrong and you are talking without knowing facts or reality....Do you know how many Sri Lankans live in those 2 Cities....I would say at least 30,000 in each City... Not to mention those from other areas who could make it to these 2 Venues easily ...There wouldve been at least 2000 Sri Lankans alone at each venue...and it could go up to 3-4,000 easily..

Sri Lanka would draw more crowds than Pakistan without any doubt...given the far more Sri Lankans living in these Cities alone...and BTW SL would've been far more competitive as well at these 2 venues given the surfaces being more conducive to SL bowlers than others they have played on...

By the way the last time Australia played in Sri Lanka, except for the Galle Test you could count the number of Spectators by walking around the ground and it was less than 1000 on most days of all three tests...
