What is the cricinfo commentator's problem? The overall RR is 2.79, and WI are 2.4 in their last ten overs. The RR is perfectly fine, considering the situation.

Anyone else watching this? Full day of cricket, first Aus/India and now WI/SA. I am the King!

I won't be able to sleep for a week - but its worth it. Rooting very hard for the WI here - would love for them to go 2-0 up.

Yeah I've been watching it while posting on a few forums. Slightly random, but does Morton now have the title of worst specialist test batsman (outside Bangladesh)? Mubarak has been dropped and Amla has scored a stack of runs lately.

Cant' complain about the run rate. Windies have been throwing away wickets for many years. So a clinical way to defend ones wicket without scoring too many runs, is exactly what the Windies have not done the last years. Samuels and C'paul really did very well to be very very very patient (and while I type, Steyn gets hammered for 13 in the over :) ).

What's with the sweeping statements these days? Given that he hasn't been dismissed by Dale Steyn yet, I'd say he's better than half of New Zealand.

West Indies are collapsing a little here after a very good couple hours with the bat. They do need to try to get above a 300 to give themselves a chance.

New Zealand clearly don't play tests.
Fair point though - he'd be better than Papps and Cumming at least.

Re: sweeping statements - they generally create discussion in unusually quiet match threads...

A couple of good balls from Ntini, though I think Samuels made a slight misjudgment in prodding at the ball.

So would I, but I do like the SA team.

I would like to see WI succeed, because a) its good for world cricket (thank me later for he cliche) and b) Pollock might be selected in the next game/series.

It always gets my hopes up when I see Pollock's name in the 11 probables in Cricinfo's preview articles (in place of Nel mind you), but it hasn't come to fruition yet.

Has Chanders ever been criticized, like Kallis for scoring too slow?

I can see two reasons why he probablt hasn't:
1. WI recently haven't really been in positions to win
2. He is so damn cool, honestly, Chanders is challenging Gayle for coolest cricket.

He has been criticized, and there have been situations where he has genuinely been too slow. Situations when he could have and probably should have played with more positivity in mind.

There's also the fact that not many people compare Chanderpaul to Ponting or Lara, so it's not something that needs to be debated against him. "He scores too slowly" is typically the reply to "Why isn't Kallis rated alongside Ponting despite scoring just as many runs lately?"

Too much emphasis is put on scoring rates in tests. Grinding their way to 350 odd should be a good score here. And if anyone tells chanderpaul to score quicker they need a good thumping, hes the one whos holding the line up together at the moment, 50 off 200 balls is absolute gold for them, what with all the free scoring players around him in the order. Besides he's shown that when they need to he can up the rate, especially when the tail comes in.

Should we be expecting much of lewis with the bat?

He's been scoring pretty swiftly of late though. I think he has a definite point to prove.

C'paul's fifty comes of 184 balls! Great test cricket that is!

And you learn something new every day: I never knew a new ball could be taken in the midst of an over, but Smith has just done so, after 80.2 overs with the first ball.

didn't I pay attention, or is this a fairly rare thing?
