If you can explain to me why you think the New Zealand test team are worth their salt, you can pick mine.If you can explain why somebody like New Zealand wouldn't take him, you can pick my avatar.
Bopara wouldn't make the team at full strength though; they'd pick Flintoff.England would take Symonds over Bopara as well, IMO.
Mark Nicolas @ 20/20: "...and the young right handed West Aussie, Luke Pomersbach, to come."
Yeah, but he's injured, so they'd pick Symonds. Circles, round, etcBopara wouldn't make the team at full strength though; they'd pick Flintoff.
In the ODI team, I think Symonds would be the third name written down for the Aussie team, and looks likely to hold his place in the Test team for quite awhile imhoIf you can explain to me why you think the New Zealand test team are worth their salt, you can pick mine.
Regardless of which, Fleming, Fulton, Styris and Sinclair are better middle order batsmen from where I sit and Oram is definitely a better allrounder.
To be fair, I didn't say "at full strength" in my original post, so you have a point. They obviously rated Bopara fairly highly to begin with given he got a game ahead of Shah and Strauss, although one could argue his bowling was factored in, in which case they'd pick Symonds.Yeah, but he's injured, so they'd pick Symonds. That and Taylor saying "I doubt Hogg's ever hit a 6 at the 'G before, now he has 2!" when he'd hit 60-odd from 30-odd there a few weeks ago only add to my theory that none of the commentators on C9 have watched a game that isn't Australia vs. <someone> in Australia since the mid 70's.
No excuse this time.Mark Nicolas
England probably would pick him, but that would once again come down to the folly of the selectors rather than Symonds' own cricketing ability. His innings today was even more pathetic than his performance in the first dig and never before have i seen a player who both looks and bats like a clown. I cannot logically see how either Symonds or Bopara are better batsmen than Owais Shah in an England side. In Bopara's case there was absolutely for him to make the tour ahead of Ramprakash and it was even more baffling to see him get picked over Shah. Somehow, cricinfo, several members on this forum and the commentators on sky managed to hype up his 8 and 34 in the first test despite both of them being extremely nerve wrecking innings for any English supporter to watch.England would take Symonds over Bopara as well, IMO.
Haha, ind33d.No excuse this time.
Definitely think they're a chance. Just look at their batting line up...And knowing that we have a few runs to play with may mean our bowlers don't come as fired up as they should tomorrow.Do you genuinely believe the score is gettable?
because I don’t think they are any chance of the target, a good score and they can take some positives to Sydney. Though the best positive is Cleary a 1-0 nil lead but that will fall Australia's way.
Symo is definately not technical...but thats how he plays and so far he's getting runs and thats why he's in the teamEngland probably would pick him, but that would once again come down to the folly of the selectors rather than Symonds' own cricketing ability. i was happy about itThough unlikely, I do think India has a fair chance.
I was a bit surprised by Ponting's declaration.
Well I think NZ are a side that has gone through a lot of injuries which have clearly robbed them of their best bowlers (well Bond and Franklin for mine) and the lack of playing Test cricket has also been a problem. Hopefully things will change and they will get better. I personally think they have just as much chance of defeating England at home as they ever have. The opening combination needs to be found and given a go with.If you can explain to me why you think the New Zealand test team are worth their salt, you can pick mine.

Sanga and Kallis are the other onesIt's been so refreshing seeing Hussey and Ponting fail in this match - it's the way cricket should be - players shouldn't be scoring 50+ every time they go out to bat. In fact it's also been very refreshing seeing scores of round 300, I'm so sick of 500+ scores. I really liked Ponting's declaration, am very tempted to go again tomorrow with the prospect of seeing VVS and Sachin again.
I cant see how someone with as atrocious a technique as his can possibly succeed. Based on his own approach to the game, i think even he realises that he isnt going to survive long at the crease and therefore attempts to spend the majority of his time at the crease slogging everything out of the park. As such, the way in which he was bowled by Zaheer Khan today of the noball was absolutely disgraceful, dont think it is possible to be anymore clueless about the delivery than he was tbh.Symo is definately not technical...but thats how he plays and so far he's getting runs and thats why he's in the team
