Terrible day by South Africa, pitch is decent for batting yet they still manager to succumb. West Indies were always guaranteed a draw at least once they scored 400 - You don’t lose test matches at P.E once you scored that many but South Africa’s reply was appalling considering only Gibbs got a ‘good’ ball. Smith missed a straight one (although, Taylor has his number), Amla similarly played all-round a straight delivery, yet, tried to work it onto the onside, that wasn’t a leg stump half volley Hashim, Edwards wasn’t bowling… And the worse dismissal was Kallis, who flirted with a short and wide one for reasons unknown and then Ashwell Prince, whose powers of concentration left him some time ago, his now merely a problem went fishing outside off stump, playing away from his body, again for reasons unknown.
If Pollock was playing one could suggest South Africa could avoid the follow-on but unless the West Indies roll up tomorrow and lose the plot, which could happen, it looked possibly when Smith and Amla were taking them to town, South Africa are going to have to bat well in the second innings to save this match. And unlike when they toured the West Indies last (first test match), the rain isn’t going to save them here from an embarrassing defeat.
