***Official*** West Indies in Zimbabwe and South Africa

You're aware that Sammy is not a strike bowler, right? He's not even a quick bowler. He does very little with the ball and his worth is as a stock bowler.

Not sure what all the excitement is about.
Taking 7 wickets in his 2nd innings!

Since (and including) scoring his third Test century in 2002 and breaking out of his century-jinx, Shivnarine Chanderpaul has scored 4352 runs at 55.08. He's scored 15 hundreds and 20 half-centuries in that time, which means a hundred every 6 or so innings and a conversion rate of 43%. Before that he had just 2 hundreds for his 23 half-centuries. This is even considering his torrid times as captain.

His last seven Test innings (including the current Test) he has scored 4 fifties and 3 hundreds. Two of those hundreds were unbeaten too.
Fantastic results.

Chanderpaul, how awesome are you? Seriously?
Bloody love Chanderpaul. What a champ!

Echo these. Love Chanders, such an amazing temperament for test cricket. Don't want to tempt fate, but the Windies look to be finally performing like they halfway deserve him.

& how funny was the no-ball for having three men behind square on the leg-side? Cost Nel a wicket (well, delayed it anyway). Amla at short-leg the bloke who wants to learn his laws of cricket.

Hypothetical as of yet, but if the Windies are in a position to enforce the follow-on should they?

I think they shouldn't enforce the follow on.

I guess it depends how quickly they get the wickets. AB and Boucher could bat for a while so the longer they bat the least likely it will happen as obvious as that sounds.

Hopefully they get Saffas out around lunch. 200-180 or so in front on the first innings.

Then bat until the middle of lunch and tea (Day 4) and be about 500 in front. Leaving 9 hours or 135 overs to get 10 wickets or 500 runs.

Depends on the pitch IMO. If it doesn't look like it'll be a minefield in the 4th innins I'd enforce it. Try to maybe get around 150 or so to chase.

West Indies have been so outstanding at losing away from home, I'd be tempted to for the conservative bat again. That's because the memories of our last fate-tempting chase against New Zealand last year are still fresh in mind. But I don't think West Indies can bowl out South Africa in a day and a half in the second innings, so batting again would perhaps be a bit too conservative.

Would have to enforce the follow-on. Whether or not it backfires, it's the positive move. And Heaven knows the team needs to make some positive statements away from home. The most important factor will be how long it takes for the last 5 wickets to fall tomorrow. Because Gayle has to consider the health of his bowlers.

Terrible day by South Africa, pitch is decent for batting yet they still manager to succumb. West Indies were always guaranteed a draw at least once they scored 400 - You don’t lose test matches at P.E once you scored that many but South Africa’s reply was appalling considering only Gibbs got a ‘good’ ball. Smith missed a straight one (although, Taylor has his number), Amla similarly played all-round a straight delivery, yet, tried to work it onto the onside, that wasn’t a leg stump half volley Hashim, Edwards wasn’t bowling… And the worse dismissal was Kallis, who flirted with a short and wide one for reasons unknown and then Ashwell Prince, whose powers of concentration left him some time ago, his now merely a problem went fishing outside off stump, playing away from his body, again for reasons unknown.

If Pollock was playing one could suggest South Africa could avoid the follow-on but unless the West Indies roll up tomorrow and lose the plot, which could happen, it looked possibly when Smith and Amla were taking them to town, South Africa are going to have to bat well in the second innings to save this match. And unlike when they toured the West Indies last (first test match), the rain isn’t going to save them here from an embarrassing defeat.

wtf
are my eyes deceiving me... this is quite a shock ..the scorecard
always thought..could be a flat pitch but pressure can do funny things...runs on the board

go windies :)

Not Terrible
Think this shows the trouble SA cricket has in a way that NZ couldn't. West Indies come and play as a strong unit, with a few standouts (Chanders) and SA are knocked on to the back foot, which is exactly what I think would've happened if not for injuries to the NZ team.

A great effort by the WI batsman to support Chanders for once, and Powell really seems to have come of age as a bowler.

Powell has gained a lot from his county cricket experience it seems (as has Taylor), but he's never going to be much more than an (marginally) above-average performer at best, mefinks.

Have you seen ANY West Indies cricket for the last decade?
Yes and I've seen the West Indies lose plenty of games but never at P.E after they have scored 400. It maybe hard to believe but once they scored that figure, South Africa had no chance of winning the game considering the West Indies no longer have Denzel Washington, Adam Sanford and Tino Best bowling.
