Don't forget people always said the same thing about McGrath and attacking him. It's simply not that easy to attack someone who bowls in the corridor on a length consistently, and does it at reasonable pace and with height to back it up. Chances are if you try and go after Clark you're going to get out, especially if he's getting anything in the air or off the wicket like today.
Yeah, I know. Its all too easy for me to make these comments from the comfort of my couch. And I can understand McGrath being hard to get hold off because of his extra pace (he was certainly quicker than Clark is, at least for most of his career) but I dont think Clark bowls that quick. 130kph average is not that fast and should be something you can attack and unsettle if you are a good test batsman - but as Social says, Clark seems to have something extra which makes that difficult.

I would like to see how he reacts though to a sustained assault. T'would be very interesting.

Here is Nawaz's stats page. As mentioned a fairly mediocre record with an average of around 33.

And it doesn't mean much to say that he was better than Imran for some years. Imran himself was a fairly average performer in most of the 1970's before becoming a legend in the 1980's.

At 32 I can't see Stuart Clark getting beyond a 100 Test wickets at most ...and even that may be stretching it...

Well, he is in the McGrath mould. Doesn't seem to get injured either.

Let's see. McGrath took about 150 wickets between when he was 32 until when he retired.

I reckon Clark can match that.

He doesn't have to be better than Safraz or as good as McGrath on the whole. Just better than Safraz after 32 and as good as McGrath after 32.

Get a decent domestic competition.
I think another 8 million males would be a better help...

I'm happy to accept NZ's place in cricketing mediocrity - we've got a small population, other sports are diluting cricket's talent pool and players (young and old) are slowly turning off cricket because of our national team's performance. If anything, we've over achieved in World Cups in recent years.

Our domestic competition can't really get much better either - we've just got crap players.

Well he's played 12 Tests and taken 58 wickets (with an innings yet to bowl), and considering we have about 16 Tests in the next year it's entirely plausible that he'll take a fair amount over 100 wickets.

was there today..great days play :)

Fraz...holy **** ..so so good.. tbh looked like he was bowling on a 20 cent peice and just really good movement away from the bat in general on a 'dead pitch' and occasionally moved it bak in... fkn gun

lol at peeps who said he was grounded after the two lankan tests ..was bowling as well as last years ashes
his subtle variations are the key to his success..he is not like McGrath as much as ppl think.. he experiments more imo

Clark is as good as McGrath so far- the thing is lots of bowlers have achieved that level of performance over a relatively short period - what makes someone like McGrath exceptional is the ability to sustain that level of performance through 100 matches.

If Clark's stats and performances are as impressive by the time he plays 40 tests, then I think there'll be a case for comparing the two.

From what I've read regarding Sarfraz I don't think its a silly statement to say Clark is as good, if not better. Not saying that its definitely true, but from his performances to date there's a decent argument. Again, if he manages to play something similar to the number of matches Sarfraz did, then we'll be better placed to compare the two.

 @ the Backyard Cricket ad when they're picking teams. Girl just starts mouthing off at Clarkey, and in the background you hear Huss go "Good, good." Haha.
Gotta love the cricket ads on. The KFC ones and the Backyard cricket ones. Top work.

Thankfully we in Scotland didn't hear it.
Not much of a difference between hearing it and not hearing it. We just couldn't comprehend it between the inane stuttering and the imitation of rap singers he seems to establish. Minus rhythm, of course.
