when was the last time australia lost 5 wickets before reaching 250 in the first inngs ??
Perth in 2006/7. Bowled out for 244 as it goes, won the test by 206 runs.

Fair play to India, looked really under the cosh with Jaques & Hayden set, but bowled very well to peg Oz back. I'm still favouring Oz slightly, but it's nice to see them stretched at least.

Wow what? Australia have only played about 4 Tests all year so it's hardly a "wow" occurence.
It didn't say a year, it said in over a year.

The whole Ashes series he didn't bat on day 1, same with the two SL tests. Neither the Bangladesh series before them, and neither the SA series in SA before that.

In fact, the last time Gilly batted on day 1 was this match all the way back in December 2005, which is actually over 2 years ago.

Just shows how dominant the Aussie top order have been in the last few years when they bat first.

Yep I agree, it does deserve a WOW :)

Nah, see my post above, 14th Dec last year.
Haha you're right, I forgot Monty's heroics at Perth were on day 1.

Well at least my match linked to a Perth match too :p

That's still twice in two years of test cricket that Gilly has had to put the pads on during day 1.

I haven't yet watched the highlights of play and was obviously at the ground and didn't have a radio so couldn't hear the commentators.

Anyone know their views regarding:
a) Johnson over Tait
b) Harbhajan playing

Mitchell Johnson playing surely because he's the incumbent. Had a reasonable first couple of Tests and really didn't deserve to be displaced by someone who hasn't played a Test in ages. Not sure about the Harbhajan decision, but I presume it's because of his history against Australia. Admittedly none of his success has come in Australia.

I don't have any issues with Johnson playing over Tait simply because it would have been harsh on Johnson to drop him after he had two steady tests against the Lankans, but i don't it was too smart a move to make him sit out in the C-H series if he was to play in this test.
As far picking Harbhajan over a seamer is concerned than i think it was a dire move, he is awfully out of touch and that puts further pressure on Kumble and Zaheer to take wickets.

I've never seen Harbhajan turn the ball so little before, he really did struggle to make it deviate today, didnt really look a threat until Brad Hogg and Johnson came in. Zaheer and RP were both good in patches and they never totally dropped their bundle at any stage, they looked very promising.

Kumble was on the spot and very clever although the pitch was offering him very little. Although a couple of very poor shots from the Australians you must say, Jaques shot was pretty ugly although in the situation he could afford to be taking liberties, however Symonds and Gilchrist both played completely inappropriate and poorly executed shots.

Yeah I agree, I was just wondering what some of the commentators would have said. I know many of the 9 commentators are very pro-Tait, so was just curious.

I think at the end of the day it comes down to Ponting, and he said that ODI form has no influence on Test selection.

Also, those C9 commentators, probably just Ian Chappell who barks on about the same thing, his impetus for suggesting Tait over Johnson would go along the lines of 'x said you only bowl this fast once in your life, so I think Tait should be in the team.
