Clarke's effort today was one of the worse cases of blatant cheating I've seen in cricket since Murali's claimed catch off Oram in the WC semi-final. I'm getting a bit sick of players nonchalently claiming catches that aren't. Any player caught doing that by the cameras should be suspended for a certain period of time. My suggestion is 6 weeks. (200 years ago it would be in the stocks and that would be fair).

Agreed. Given how obvious it was that he didn't take the catch cleanly a large fine, or a suspension for a set number of ODIs is certainly justified.

Have not seen the incident in question but there are few things that I hate than the blatant cheating of claiming a catch you know you didnt take.

I disliked Steve Waugh for the longest time for his claimed catch against Lara all those years ago. Then I watched a number of replays this year and it roles along his body and was a good, if unsual, catch.

I'm nowhere near convinced he knew he grassed it. All good and well to say out when it comes to slow motion - but people seriously want him to be banned when in all likelihood he thought he'd taken it.

it was not jayawardane...

and in that case umpires did consult wether to give it to third umpire..but alim darr gave the decisions in favour of fielder..so he had some one esle to blame it also..dont know wht happened with this case though.....

I think this runs the same line as if batsmen caught when he knows he nicked it..but still waits for the umpire to make a decision.. if you are going to start banning fake catches.. you may as well start banning batsmen..

It was a diving catch he obviously thought he took - hardly the most blatant form of cheating in the history of mankind.
